About This Item
Lot of 3 Letters. The letters are concerning the George Grenville Benedict family and the interest in writing in book by Lawrence Chamberlain. The first letter written on February 23, 1943 by Grenville Benedict, (Phillips Academy Andover Mass.) to his father concerning a correspondence from Lawrence Chamberlain. Mr. Chamberlain was writing a book about the Civil War and wanted to include information about Grenville's grandfather, George Grenville Benedict, a Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, who served in the Civil War as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company C, 12th Vermont Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during his brigade's celebrated flank attack on Pickett's Charge during the Third Day of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863.Anyhow, Mr. Chamberlain writes to the grandson of G.G. Benedict, who in turn sends it to his father and asks him to answer Mr. Chamberlain directly. So we have a letter from Grenville, son, to his dad, enclosing the letter he received from Mr. Chamberlain. Then we have a second letter from Mr.Chamberlain thanking Grenville for communicating with his father. A notation from Grenville at the top of the page where he has then forwarded the letter to his father. dskdrwr2Condition: Light dust soiling.See Photos
