About This Item
[London], [1935]. Ephemera. Foxed, else very good. 2 unnumbered leaves, folded: 114 x 195 cm.
After Lawrence's death in May 1935 a number of his friends including F. M. Allenby, G. Bernard Shaw and Winston Churchill solicited funds from the public for a bronze bust of him by Eric Kennington to be placed in the crypt of St. Paul's Cathedral, London. The effort was successful and the memorial was installed on 29 January 1936. It may be added that Lawrence's cottage, Clouds Hill, was opened to the public and that other memorials to him are now at 2 Polstead Road, Oxford, and at 14 Barton Street, London. Additionally, there is a second effigy by Kennington in St. Martin's Church, Wareham, Dorset.
