by [President Miguel Barragán

[Texas Revolution] [President Miguel Barragán.] Decree on Funding the War Provoked by the Texas Settlers. [Durango]: [No publication information.] January 19, 1836. Broadside on laid paper. 30 cm. At head of title: Gobierno de Durango. Signed in type: Antonio María de Esparza with rubric and José de la Bárcena with rubric. Near fine.

OCLC show no holdings for this Decree from Durango. "Decree authorizing the government to dispose of half of the income of the departments while the war brought on by the Texas colonists continues."— See, Streeter, Texas 871. Republication of a Decree of January 9, 1836. OCLC shows one holding for the original decree (Baylor). Streeter cites the first separate publication of the decree from January 17, 1836 in Sonora. A decree from the early stages of the conflict with the "Texan Rebels." The document was issued at the moment that the Mexican government realized that the situation was serious, as shown by this exceptional authorization to use half of the income of the departments to sustain the war.

[Texas] [San Antonio] Adina De Zavala. History and legends of the Alamo and other missions in and around San Antonio. San Antonio: Standard Printing Co. 1917. Tan pictorial wraps. 20 cm. Illustrated. 219 pp. Rear cover separated; front cover corner bends, else very good.
Adina De Zavala led the opposition to tearing down portions of the Alamo "in a resolute and voluble stand" and was instrumental in the preservation of portions of the original wall of the convent. In fact, she barricaded herself inside the north barrack of the Alamo for three days in February 1908 to protest its destruction. In 1912 she organized the Texas Historical and Landmarks Association, which placed thirty-eight markers at historic sites in Texas. She probably did more than any other one person in stirring interest in the preservation of the Spanish Governor's Palace in San Antonio. – Handbook of Texas. A tireless protector of Texas history, De Zavala is now honored with a marker in the patio of the convent at the Alamo

Description:
[California] S. Lang? Autograph letter, signed. San Francisco, California. June 16, 1852. To his wife. One sheet folded into four leaves. Some 450 words, around 350 on the voyage.
Describes his trip across Panama, including being thrown off his mule, to the amusement of the natives. Also a woman who was a passenger had her two infants being carried by Indian women and they were separated during a torrential downpour. When they had not come to Panama City by nine p.m. they went searching for them and found them at 4 a.m., some 10 miles away "asleep on the bodies of their natives." They stopped to load coal in Acapulco. The passage took 25 days, but he arrived in good health, because until they were within three day of arrival "one might imagine him left on the Hudson Bay River so very smooth was the sea." Nice, if relatively brief, first-hand account of an 1854 steamship voyage to San Francisco.
