About This Item
The son of famed evangelist Dwight L. Moody was an educator and editor who succeeded his father in managing the renowned Northfield Schools and also continued the famed Conferecnes until his death; in 1900 he authored "The Life of Dwight L. Moody." ALS, 3pp (lettersheet), 4½" X 7", New York, NY, 21 May n.y. Addressed to Mrs. Ropes. Near fine. On imprinted letterhead of "Yale Club / 30 West Forty-Fourth Street," Moody implores a friend to reconsider attending his party, some type of extended affair at the famed Northfield Schools -- perhaps a fundraising affair? "I am deeply disappointed at your letter and very Earnestly trust that on second thought you may find it possible to join our party Friday. Our train will be the 4 p.m. train Friday and we anticipate two good days for our friends at Northfield...." Boldly penned in Moody's large, attractive hand. Undated, but likely turn-of-the-century. Unusual.
