Hodder & Stoughton; Royal Geographical Society, 1936. 1st edition. Hardcover. Black boards with blue lettering, in very good condition, pages very clean, tissue guards over the 27 photographs, relief map on fep. Foreword by Hugh Ruttledge, line drawings by Bip Pares. Very nice copy of the author's account of his important expedition with H.W.Tilman into the Rishi Gorge to the Nanda Devi Sanctuary in 1934. Shipton's account of his and Tilman's expeditions into unknown parts of the Himalayas was first outlined in the paper he gave to the Royal Geographical Society in 1935, which was then printed in the April 1935 issue which accompanies this copy of his book. This issue has blue wrappers, with plates and maps, and is seldom found in such excellent condition. A unique combination.
