Toronto: House Of Anansi, 1974 First Printing, first edition of Yesterdays by Harold Sonny Ladoo, a young immgrant to Canada from Trinidad. This book was apparently the second of what was to be a trilogy which was never completed due to his murder during a visit to Trinidad. It is a comedic novel about the attempted launching of a Hindu mission to Canada, inspired by some negative experiences experienced in meeting a Canadian Christian missionary in Trinidad. This is a near fine copy which may be unread, no writing, no reading creases but a slight turnup to upper outside corner and sadly some small coffee splashes on the page edge (see photo). Scarce.

London: Chapman & Hall, 1947 Apparent First, This Is A 1947 Chapman & Hall Issue By Mary Essex, Which Turns Out To Be One Of Several Pseudonyms Used By Ursula Bloom, A British Novelist Who Is Variously Reported As Having Written Her First Book At The Age Of Five, Six Or Seven, Of Having Read All Of Charles Dickens By The Age Of Ten, And Of Being Recognized In The Guinness Book Of Records For Having Written Over 400 Or 500 Books, As Well As A Number Of Radio Plays. At One Point She Worked As A Cinema Pianist During The Silent Film Era, And Later As A Journalist On Fleet Street. New York: George H. Doran Company, 1919 This is a novella written by a nine year old girl in 1890. She was discovered by J.M.Barrie, who also apparently edited it somewhat. The original spelling remains, but he says in his introduction that the original was one long paragraph, but he had split it into chapters for ease of reading. The jacket remarks by Hugh Walpole mention that four editions were printed in London in one month, and they generally seem to advise the American public that they are about to encounter a treasure, therefore am guessing that this was a first U.S. edition. The book includes a holograph of the original manuscript, as well as a frontispiece of the author, a young girl with mischievous expression in a sailor dress.
