The volume is edge rubbed, bumped on the spine ends, and the intensity spine lettering is somewhat diminished. The dust jacket is clipped on all corners (no price is present), soiled, and has edge wrinkles, chips and closed tears (one of 2" on the rear panel). The jacket is sleeved in mylar.

Wyeth.The volume is bumped on the spine ends and corners, is lightly soiled, has a toned spine, and is edge rubbed with some light fraying on the spine ends. At some point the hinges split and were carelessly glued back together, so much so that the front endpaper sticks above the text block and the top edge is crimped, wrinkled, and has two short closed tears. Some redeeming qualities: the text with the 14 illustrations are present and have only minor disturbances.

The volume is pushed and bumped at the spine ends and has a sun toned spine with no gilt in the spine lettering. The lettering on the front panel is sharp. The top page edges are gilt; the fore and bottom edges are rough cut, with jagged imperfections on the bottom of pages 63-66. The dust jacket may be from a later printing because three of the titles listed on the rear panel were not published until 1918, although it is possible that Harpers' may have been advertising upcoming titles. Anyway, the dust jacket has what appears to be a water spot on the front panel, a lighter area near the base of the spine extending to both the front and rear panels (from a sticker removal), general light to moderate soiling, and edge wear with light chipping to the spine ends. The volume is gently sunned along the top edges, has some scattered soiling to the page edges, and the spine is lightly concave near the crown. The unclipped dust jacket, sleeve protected, has edge wear to include ½" closed tears with creases on both the top and bottom of the front panel and the jacket is wrapped slightly off-center to the spine.

There is an ink notation on the front endpaper, pencilled notes as well, soiling , staining to a few of the fore-edges, a couple of creased corners, and light toning and soiling throughout. A red stamped address is on the copyright page (Canadian office of Samuel French?). Overall, sounds dreadful, but it is a good copy.

The pastedowns and endpapers are mildly toned , interior leaves lightly so. The sleeved dust jacket is clipped on all corners (price of $2.00 is present) and restored along spine and flap fold ends, with color added at recto. There is mild rubbing to the panels with wrinkling along the edges. The spine has a series of small drip stains.
