Appears to be a first edition; no additional printing noted, and author's preface refers to a "future volume" to follow. Gift inscription front endpaper dated '86 , however. With tissue-guarded frontispiece illustration and small text drawings. Light-to-moderate rubbing to cover extremities, including 1" scrape in cloth at lower front cover fore edge. Very few intermittent light brownstains to text margins. Otherwise clean and tight.

Detroit: General Motors Forty-nine booklets. Economist Henry J. Taylor (1902-1984), also a prolific journalist/author and Ambassador to Switzerland from 1957-61--was the featured speaker on the Mutual Broadcasting System's General Motors radio program "Your Land and Mine" in the mid-40s. His talks were published in staple-bound booklet and brochure format, two talks in each. He probably was popular because of his basically conservative/"man-in-the-street" views and comments on government ("Government Costs Too High, "A Governmental Weakness") the economy ("Taxes Must Come Down," "Understanding Profits Needed") the Communist threat ("Snakes in America," "Outlaw Communism") patriotism ("Courage--Our National Heritage," "Help Strengthen America") morals ("Keep Trying," "Our Destiny Rests With Ourselves") and many other subjects.
