"Xenophyophores are multinucleate unicellular organisms found on the ocean floor throughout the world's oceans, at depths of 500 to 10,600 metres (1,600 to 34,800 ft). They are a kind of foraminiferan that extract minerals from their surroundings and use them to form an exoskeleton known as a test. They were first described by Henry Bowman Brady in 1883. Inscribed by the publisher (Von Rosen?) on the first blank to, suprisingly, the Swedish architect Ivar Justus Tengbom (1878-1968) "one of the best-known representatives of the Swedish neo-classical architecture of the 1910s and 1920s" (Wikipedia). This work by one of the most influential German zoologists and malacologists, Emil Karl Hermann Johannes Thiele (1860-1935) contains many new species. All edges marbled. = This work was initially written by Charles Wodarch (years of birth and death unknown) and published by John Mawe in 1820 (with four plates), and went through several reprints up to 1827. The British explorer and malacologist John Mawe (1764-1829) subsequently corrected and expanded it several times, this being the final - and least common - edition, published after Mawe's death.
