Description:
Boston: Sold by Booksellers and Stationers, 1855. 24mo. 8pp. Illustrated with eight wood engravings all of which relate to the text passages appearing below them. These passages feature longer words broken out into syllables to aid young readers in their quest to expand their vocabulary. According to the wrappers, this is the seventh number in a twelve-volume series of "One Cent Toy Books," a list of which appears on the rear. Although no publisher is named, these titles were also issued under the Philadelphia imprint, Fisher & Brother around this period. And while the Fisher imprint of this title is noted in a single institutional holding, the present issue is not listed in OCLC. An uncommonly clean, bright copy in publisher's printed wrappers, which, perhaps owing to a bindery oversight, was never sewn into the wrappers.

Also contains full-color reproductions of eight papers for which samples were not available, reproductions of two unpublished designs, and a number of black and white photographs showing rooms decorated with the papers. Between 1927 and 1933 the Curwen Press produced a series of wallpapers that were principally designed by the English artist Edward Bawden, who contributes an introduction to this edition. Printed from lithographic plates that reproduced his lino-cuts, Bawden's designs were printed on sheets of paper rather than in rolls. The Whittington Press acquired the last remaining stock of these papers in private hands and produced this elegant book, which…

London: Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, 1891. Boyd, E. M.. Small quarto. 64pp. First edition. With photo-etched illustrations in black & white throughout by Mrs. E. M. Boyd, Mr. R. André, and by the poet, Louisa A. Meredith. Although born in Birmingham, England, Meredith moved to New South Wales, and then Tasmania, after marriage. After realizing that there weren't any books available for children on Australian subjects, she set out to create a collection of simple rhymes for Australian children on local themes. Many of her poems celebrate Australia's flora and fauna: the waratah of the title is a flowering shrub that is the floral emblem of New South Wales, and other rhymes feature gum trees and bower birds. The rhymes first appeared in Meredith's collection of poems, Grandmamma's Verse-book for Young Australia. Bound in pictorial boards printed in red and green, with the title and a design of waratah flowers on the front board. Spine ends bumped, some rubbing to extremities, traces remain of erased…

Venice: Peter Koch, Printer, 2006. Morgan, Robert. Small folio. 25ff., + 7 plates. From an edition of fifty copies, this is one of thirty bound in Venetian red stiff wrappers. Signed by the printer, Peter Koch, and photographer Robert Morgan. Produced during Koch's term as artist-in-residence at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia, Brodsky's text consists of lyrical fragments that offer up a view of the city through the eyes of an exiled Russian poet. Brodsky dedicated the work, first published in 1989, to American painter and Venice resident, Robert Morgan, whose fourteen atmospheric photographs are reproduced here in photogravure. Printed on Twinrocker "Da Vinci" paper featuring a specially designed watermark, the book represents a tightly constructed and very tactile representation of place. A fine copy housed in its original quarter morocco folding case, which shows a little toning to the spine. Prospectus laid in.

Description:
Oakland, CA: Inkworks, 1975. (Shapiro, Susan). Three-color poster. Below the titular declaration of freedom is a string of figures holding hands, ascending a mountain; the lead figure holds aloft a banner that merges the symbol for woman with the flag of Vietnam. At the bottom of the poster is an inscription found written on the walls of a cell at Con Son Women's Prison in South Vietnam: "The mountain is only so high... / Our capacity is without limit. / The stars move; our will is unshakable!" As the poster states, Con Son Women's Prison was liberated on April 30, 1975. The prison was a vestige of colonial oppression, constructed by the French colonial government in the mid-19th century and used throughout the Vietnam War to imprison (and torture) political dissidents. The liberation of the prison complex marks a radical act of anti-colonialism, especially in its historical context. Fine. Framed. (Frame measures 17 1/4 by 21 1/4 in.).
