Description:
Leiden, Boston, Koln: Brill, 2002. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Water architecture in South Asia represents some of the most beautiful and spectacular building achievements of the region. This study provides an holisitic approach to the subject, suggesting common links and regional contrasts between types of water architecture in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Five types of water structures are identified. Their development is traced from simple to more complex forms, considering how these accomodate secular and religious functions, and present expressions of sacred and royal authority. This publication is the first reference work on the subject." Volume XXIV in the Studies in Asian Art and Archaeology series. Quarto: xiii, 266 p. with 45 textual figures and 290 plates (some color). Original blue cloth binding, with gilt titles. Some faint evidence of moisture along the extremities, with some light wear to the dust jacket; otherwise very good.
