Description:
Atop the North Face lies the gigantic "White Spider," a formidable formation of perpetual ice and snow. It is the configuration, not Eiger's height, that makes the mountain such an appalling challenge. "From that perpetual, fearfully steep field of frozen snow nothing but ice emerges to fill gullies, cracks, and crevices," writes Harrer, who, with three companions in 1938, became the first to climb the Eiger's North Face, from the base to the top. For this edition Harrer chose six of his personal photographs and revised his original 1960 version. Six photogravures and Epilogue by Heinrich Harrer.Edition limited to 300 numbered copies. Each book signed by Heinrich Harrer.Inset into the front cover, minute granules, scraped from the icy rock surface of the Eiger, form the profile of the mountain; the spine a gray Nigerian goatskin. The book is set into a hinged black linen covered box lined with ultrasuede. The author's photographs have been made into photogravures and printed on mould made paper… Read More

What could they have had in common-Count Balthazar Klossowski de Rola, the Paris-born modern artist (better known as Balthus) who has filled scores of canvases with paintings of female nudes, and Mistress Emily Brontë, the mid-nineteenth century British spinster who seems never to have left the Yorkshire moors? Precisely, those moors. In his youth, the Count visited that wild landscape and, in 1933, made a series of drawings based on her gripping novel. Some say that he saw himself as Heathcliff. Sixty-one years later, and after creating a vast array of famous paintings, many reminiscent of those drawings, Balthus agreed in 1994 to have The Limited Editions Club present, for the first time in their destined context, the entire suite of fifteen drawings. Happy to behold their fruition, Balthus wrote an Afterword for the book.Fifteen lithographs and Afterword by Balthus.Edition limited to 300 numbered copies. Each signed by Balthus. The Balthus drawings have been turned into lithographic plates and… Read More
