Several ink stamps inside front board for dates in 1940, stamp for the ''Razmac Club Library'' on f/ep and inside back cover. Razmak is in North Waziristan, Pakistan, so this club would probably have been some kind of establishment for the British Military who were stationed there at the time. Some foxing to outer pages, otherwise a good tight, internally clean copy of this hard-cover novel set around the First World War battle of Verdun in 1916. Originally printed in France in 1938 as volumes 16 and 17 (Prélude à Verdun and Verdun) of the author's immense, twenty-seven volume series '' Les Hommes de bonne volonté" (Men of Good Will), this is a British edition from 1940. 498pp, folding map.. Binding almost completely given way inside front and back covers, outer pages missing, the first page remaining is the title page so the frontispiece is missing. So really just a reading copy of this hard-cover book dealing with the Newfoundland Seal Hunt of 1922, when the author sailed on the Terra Nova (the same ship which carried Captain Scott on his last trip to the Antarctic).
