The vellum binding has a natural discolouring due to the quality and natural selection of the skin. An excellent copy. George Coggeshall was an American sea captain who for nearly twenty-six years, having received his first command in 1809. Privateering occupied him during the War of 1812. Perhaps the most interesting voyage recounted here is in the schooner Sea Serpent, from New York to Callao, Peru, in the years 1821/2 but there are other voyages to France and the Mediterranean, Lisbon, Lima, Cadiz, and St. Thomas.
