A 7 3/4" x 5 1/4" suede cover with suede tie binding. The cover is pyrography decorated and depicts the exterior and grounds of the Northfield Chateau. The journey begins with the traveler leaving Springfield MA at 3:30 pm on July 3, 1898. Based on the content of the 20 pencil written pages it appears that the gentleman was attending a religious retreat with numerous lectures. The writer describes content of the lectures and his interpretations. The retreat was apparently also attended by his son. The writing concludes with "Enjoyed being with my boy up here and it was sure good food for thought that has found a resting place in my heart". First and last page heavily toned from acid leaching from the leather. The chateau was designed by noted architect Bruce Price (of the Ch teau Frontenac) for Francis Robert Schell, a New York capitalist attracted by his interest in Dwight Lyman Moody's work at the nearby Northfield Seminary and Mount Hermon School. It was completed in 1903 on grounds of 125 acres.

A fine lace paper Valentine featuring embossed Victorian gilt scrap of Cupid, a hand-colored lithographed image of a couple inside, and a very delicate silk mesh window. Two printed stanzas of verse inside, with early ink manuscript below reading, "Dear Ada As sure as grapes Grow on the vine So sure you are my Valentine". 12mo sized bifolium measuring approx. 5.5" by 3.75

London, 1855. 4 pgs, On the cover is a black and white illustration of the Valley of Chamouni (also spelled Chamounix or Chamonix) a valley in esatern France by Mont Blanc. Songs include La Morne au Diable and La Vallee de Chamouny. These songs are meant for dancing,. the quardrille. At the base of the music front and back is a narrative titled "Hints for Dancing Quadrilles" by Mrs. (Frances) N. Henderson. Measures 13 1/2" x 9 1/2" Toned and soiled due to age. Pages are separated. Minor stain in the shape of an arch on the back cover.

Syracuse, NY, 1861. Minor soiling and toning due to age as well as a few minor separations along the fold.. A transfer of patent certificate for the Common Sense [Butter] Churn. The churn was invented by C. D. Van Allen and patented by him in July 1861 with an O.B. Cowles purchasing shares in it at that time. This certificate is represents when Van Allen transfer his share and ownership of his invention to Jefe M. Sharp of Roxbury, NJ, in November 1861. At the bottom of the certificate it states that the It was received by the US Patent Office on November 30, 1861 and entered into their "Transfer of Patent" files. Reverse is blank. Chicago, IL: Van Housen, 1920. General wear. Entire catalogue has been folded and has a crease mark on it.. A trade catalogue for the company call Van Housen, based in Chicago, which sold paper, mostly crepe paper, party favors, costumes and accessories. This items were intended for short time use, either as a Halloween costume, theater costume, or any sort costume parties such as Carnival Celebrations, Masquerade Dances or Football parades. While some of the items sold are complete costumes, such as the Chinaman, Merry-Go-Round Girl, King's Jester, and Spanish Girl, the majority are meant as accessories, such as hats, umbrellas, wants and wings. Several of the costume accessories sold are: minute man hat, farm straw hat, drum major hat, police office cap, puritan hat and collar, Chinese hat, Indian hat, Japan maid hat, and a bird hat. An 8 leaf book included wraps. 8 pp. rhyming verse printed in Dutch Four (4) full color plates that open from the center to reveal a second set of images. An interesting transforming pictures book that flaps back from center. The life story of a princess growing into a queen. Each verse is titles and the verse is relevant to the two image illustrations. The titles are: The Royal Family Which she likes to do The Deer know her a driving lesson a ride Not a princess anymore Inaugurated as queen The book measures 7 1/2" x 6 1/2".

Boston: G W Cottrell, 1851. 96 pp, Decorated green cloth binding, with gilt edges. Miniature book. Edited by Anna Elizabeth, this pocket book details the language of flowers. On each page, it denotes a flower, what it looks like, its meaning and then a poem or verse. For example: Daffodil - Native of Spain, Magnificent flowers of golden yellow - Uncertainty - The flowers that smiles today, Tomorrow dies; All that we wish to stay, Tempts and then flies. What is this world's delight? Lightening that mocks the night, Brief as bright. Stereotyped: Hobart & Robbins Measures 3 1/8" x 2 1/4" Minor edge wear due to rubbing (mostly on the back strip). There is an inscription by a previous owner on one page. Interior pages are soiled and stained throughout (particularly in the first half of the book), but nothing that effects the readability of the text. Page 15/16 is out of order, and is in fact before the Preface.

New York, New York: Venetian Iron Co. Good. Toned with stains, short tears, wear to extremities. Letter folds.. A printed prospectus promoting the art of bent iron work to amateurs, offering an upcoming catalogue from the Venetian Bent Iron Company with related tools and equipment for sale. The amateur needs no special skills, save the ability to read, and the designs are easy to decipher for everything from candlesticks to wrought iron brackets. Includes illustrations for the company's tools, such as their New Twisting Machine. There is also a separate leaf of paper (11.5" by 9.5") that serves as a sample design pattern. Prospectus is an illustrated bifolium measuring 9.5" by 6" and has early ink manuscript to the foot of its first page ("A new catalogue will be sent to you shortly.") Ink stamp of company to first page.

Pittsford, VT: Vermont Sanatorium, 1916. General wear.. A small booklet that describes the rules and other important information on the Vermont Sanatorium presumably given to the patients as they arrived. The sanatorium specialized in treating patients who had tuberculosis, or consumption as it is sometimes called. The booklet contains the guidelines for when a patients temperature taken, bed treatment, exercise, rest, daily schedule, meals, report days (days the patients go to the physician rather than the nurse monitoring them), hygienic instructions, expectoration, examinations, stimulants (no liquor), smoking policies, medicine, visiting hours, laundry services, duties of patients (including a small list of daily chores), business hours of the administrative office, and miscellaneous rules. 1870. Water stain right margin.. A 10" x 8" sheet with a variety of designs of plaited hair from 25 different people held in place with miniature Victorian floral scraps. From a single loop or strands to elaborate weavings of multiple hair chains and loops. Intricate fine weave. Of particular note is that all of the hair in this work is blond with the exception of one light brown strand at the lower left. Housed in rustic tramp art frame. This would have most likely been a family remembrance piece.

London: Frederick Warne and Company. Binding shows some rubbing; pages show discoloration. 16 pages, engraved frontisepiece. Cover is a purple wrapper with a decorative border. "Price One Penny" printed on top of border on front and back cover. Children's story with religious and moral lessons. One of a set of twelve, part of a series of such sets, each labeled with a letter to identify it in the larger series - unable to determine which set this volume belongs to. Back cover has, inside the decorative border, a list of all 12 titles in this particular set. 4 3/4" x 3". OCLC-1 (Aug, 2018).

Hildesheimer & Faulkner, 1880. Light wear (offset) on a few pages.. Large format album with 39 leaves with applied fine chromolithograph album cards and illustrations on both sides of the page, in other words 78 decorated pages. At the center of each page is an applied album cards surrounded by watercolor illustrations and elements relevant to the card and elaborate watercolor border designs. Some pages also include manuscript verse done for the most part in artistic writing styles. The decorations vary widely from a chain link necklace, to arching stalks of corn and a hand fan. One set of pages includes a verse with little pen and ink scenes from nature with anthropomorphic animals and a large gold man in the moon. Another set of pages has an Aesthetic movement theme with appropriate cards and a tiny pen and ink drawing with a woman and an Oscar Wilde character admiring a sunflower. 1870. A 5 1/2" x 2" brass clip of sorts with a lock in the shape of a decorative heart . A brass circle at top to attach to a chain on a chatelaine. Used by Victorian women predominantly from the 1840s-1880s. Most often hung from a chatelaine for easy access. It kept the hem of the skirt from dragging in the skirt when the occasion warranted and allowed for easy release to avoid risk of exposing the ankles and the scandal this may create.

1860. Fine.. An 8 3/4" x 9 1/4" cut in the shape of a leaf with a silk ribbon tie. The cover has a shield shaped opening backed with silk mesh. Fern fronds and leaves arranged in a decorative display. Heavy stock covers. Six (6) interior blank pages. Sandwiched between the pages are the circular silk mesh discs surrounded by some type of cilia from nature give a sunburst appearance to each. The centers of each with delicately applied fern fronds, leaves and seeds. Delicate and decorative Victoriana. Each circular ornament (including cilia) measures approximately 5 1/2" in diameter.

New York, 1890. An elaborate cookie created in the shape of a heart with applied cornucopias and a Cupid with a floral garland. Applied gold leaf to bead-shaped border decoration. The cookie was applied to a New York City street map for cooling/stability. The map on the reverse is helpful in dating the cookie, in 1912 the land was donated to the City of New York for a park. The parcel of land was purchased by Mr. Isham in 1864.
