One of 500 copies. 18 different alphabets printed in different colours on French-fold variously coloured Strathmore Artlaid and Plan 8 paper. The typeface in Monotype Walbaum. 8vo., original printed wrappers over printed limp boards. Wrappers little crinkled, book block split.||The alphabets are from original 30 x 22 inch drawings printed in black line and individually painted, now in the collections of universities, museums and galleries. Kindersley’s aim was to make these named alphabets and his incredible calligraphic skills accessible to all.|

Image size 6.1 x 8 cms.Together with a proof of the front cover design of the car with the wood engraving in the middle surrounded by a vine border designed by JBW and printed in green, plus a copy of the final card printed on the outside 2 pages and without the internal greeting.||James Hawker & Son was wine merchant in Plymouth dating from the 1820s, after William Hawker created a recipe for Sloe gin in the 1790s. The company was bought in the late 20th century by Allied Domeqq.|

Printed in Subiaco type in red and black with initials, designed by Graily Hewitt, printed in blue. One of 236 copies. 8vo., original limp vellum with green silk ties, fore and lower edges untrimmed. An exceptionally good, fresh copy, top edge just very slightly spotted.||Reprinted from the fifteenth century Florentine manuscript by Ugolino Verino which was in the private collection of Hornby, having been bought by him at Sothebys in 1918. After the sale the Franciscan scholar Walter Seton asked permission to study it as a hitherto unknown version of the Life of St. Clare and his introduction and notes printed here summarise the results of his work.
