1 Barkley & Hasson's Java Mixed Baltimore Brand Coffee trade card. Antique lithographed advertising card with charming girl wearing a yellow dress and apron, with a basket holding red boxes of coffee. She's wearing netted fingerless gloves and holding a flowering tree branch. The top left corner is chipped. Blank on the reverse; slight soiling/staining on the back. Measures 2 by 3.25 inches.2 Centennial American Tea, Lynn Massachusetts - Antique Lithographed Victorian Advertising Trade Card. "A Quiet Nook in the Park." A man and woman snuggle on a twig bench, their horses and young boys watching; the man, with stereotyped Irish features, still carries a riding whip. "With Compliments of C.A. Tea Co., Lynn." Printed by Bufford's Sons. Advertising on back for Oolong Tea, 50 cents a pound, and Java coffee for 30 cents a pound. Measures 4.37 by 2.63 inches. Twenty [21] original late-Victorian era humorous cards, circa 1880-1890; a few have advertising material. Victorian humor is not funny - 6 cards mock fat men, more ridicule drunks, unattractive people, and foreigners; some with anti-Irish jabs, practical jokes, and many laughs at others' expense.A few of the cards advertise businesses selling furniture, soap, clothing, and stationery, located in Providence RI, Pen Yan NY, Glastonbury CT, New Bedford CT, and Portland ME.A few are full-color chromos, some monochromatic lithographs, and 7 monochromatic woodcuts. Condition generally good, used. all with light yellowing from age-toning; some with light creases, glue residue, or surface / edge wear; one with pencil marks.
