Description:
T. Cox, at the Lamb, 1727. Hardcover. Very Good. Volume 1 is the 13th edition. London: R. Ware, J. & P. Knapton, T. Longman, S. Birt, C. Hitch, J. Hodges, S. Austen, C. Corbett, J. Davidson, J. and J. Rivington, J. Hinton, J. Ward, W. Johnston, and M. Cooper, 1749 (includes one ad at rear). Volume II is the first edition from 1727 (ends at Finis after Zoophytes, possibly an original blank leaf following.) Unformly bound, probably in the 19th century in full brown leather with burgundy leather spine labels, marbled endpapers, edges stained red. Repaired, probably in the 19th or early 20th century with joint repairs. Some wear to leather, but an attractive set. The mismatched dates mean you get one first edition and one with "considerable improvements." One of the most important of English language dictionaries.
