Description:
Donington: Shaun Tyas , 2022. Book. Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A fine new copy. Horace Walpole (1717-97), the artistic son of Robert Walpole, the United Kingdom's first prime minister, began creating Strawberry Hill in Twickenham at the end of the 1740s. The house is now seen as the most significant, if not the very first, Gothic home made in Georgian Britain, though its contents were dispersed in a month-long auction in 1842. Peter Lindfield demonstrates that the villa emerged slowly from many unrealised or much-altered designs, plans and sketches, which survive today in the Lewis Walpole Library at Yale University. These designs are here assessed and published together as a corpus for the first time. Fully illustrated with a bibliography and index. 224pp .

London: Enitharmon Press, 2017. Book. Fine. Hardcover. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A fine copy. By making detailed comparisons between their poems, Longley shows how the aesthetics of Thomas and Frost complement one another across the Atlantic. She argues, perhaps controversially, that we should think about Great War poetry from the perspective of Thomas as 'war poet' and critic of war poetry. And she suggests that to focus on Thomas is to open up poetic relations in the 'Anglo-Celtic' archipelago. 302pp..

Description:
London: Rupert Hart Davies, 1959. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A very good copy of this early sea-going story from the master storyteller of the Aubrey-Maturin series. The tale of an ill fated ship on Anson's expedition that finally sinks on the coast of Chile. In d/w that has some minor fading to the spine as is usual in this edition. 256pp. This 1959 edition is reputed to have had a print run of 4,500 copies but elusive to find now in good condition, it was not published in the USA until 1995. Considered a successor to the Aubrey/Maturin partnership and indeed as Dean King states "the seed from which the Aubrey/Maturin series eventually sprang"..

Here are twenty-five peer-reviewed essays by leading historians exploring the distinctive aspects which the urban environment brought to late-medieval religious life. There are 64 pages of colour plates, highlights of these being parishes in Norwich, stained glass at Long Melford in Suffolk and the cadaverous tomb of Bishop Fleming at Lincoln.
