.First edition published in New York and London. and translated by W. L. Courtney. The cover is in good condition. The quite beautiful gilded fish/spirit design and printing on the front cover stands our clearly; as do the designs and print along the pine. However, the covers have shelf wear along the edges and corners, most pronounced at the bottom and top of the spine. The top of the spine has a piece of the cover (about 1/4") missing. Otherwise, the book is in excellent condition, the pages are without tears or blemishes. Rackham's drawings and designs grace the opening pages and the beginning of each chapter. There are 14 half-toned paste-on engravings, each covered with glassine paper. No dj. This is the story of Undine, a water spirit, marries a knight. It is an early German fairy tale. Also clear gild design on spine. Overall, book is in very good to excellent condition except for the following: a tera - about 1/8" along the top of the spine, chipping and shelf wear along cover edges and corners, and edges of pine (see photos). Pages are in excellent condition - no rears or marks. all 15 Rackham plates are in pristine condition.
