Kampala, Uganda: The Makererean, 1962. Small newspaper format; measuring about 11.25" x 17" (28.5cm x 43cm). 4pp., illustrated. In very good or better condition, with old folds and a few nicks to the extremities, but clean and bright. "The Makererean" was a monthly student-run newspaper out of Makerere University in Uganda. Though the university was founded in the 1920s, it gained new importance in Uganda after the nation's independence in 1960. This periodical was founded by liberal and radical students to discuss important cultural and political issues affecting both the university and the newly independent nation. The first issue contains a lengthy mission statement, part of which reads: "...every student and staff member here has a right to know what is happening around them and they have the additional right to publicly express themselves on subjects that are important and vital to them. Very good. 16mo, 32pp. A very good copy in the publisher's light blue stapled wrappers. Gentle foxing to the wraps and staple rust, else a clean and straightforward copy of this very uncommon southern union pamphlet. Though dating from long after unions took hold of major industries in the northern US, unions always had a tougher path in the American south, and union membership was very spotty. We tried numerous search terms, and were unable to locate any copies in OCLC, nor did we find any copies in commerce at the time of listing.

Scarce directory to Ugandan government offices, printed just after independence from the UK.

Spine almost imperceptibly cocked, else a fine, tight, lovely copy, almost certainly unread. Dust jacket is price-clipped at the bottom (this was done by the publisher), with the $3.50 price intact at the top of the front flap. There is some very gentle offsetting and a tiny nick at the top of the rear panel, thus the jacket is near fine. Overall, a particularly nice copy of this book, often found with libary markings.

Large octavo, 166pp., illustrated on the interior panels of the wrappers (the first depicting the "Wide-Awakes" of Hartford, CT; the rear showing a pool hall scene, with no caption--both of these probably inserted later). A good copy only of this fragile publication, bound in limp canvas cloth, with applied labels to front and rear wraps (this seems to be a slightly later attempt at structural reinforcement, rather than a variant binding from the publisher). Wrappers quite worn, with some shallow loss to extremities, the front inner hinge slightly exposed, but holding. Contents quite clean, with scattered occasional foxing and a few small stains. On the front wrapper is printed "An edition for the million!" and the notice "173,000 copies already published in America." Printed in two columns. This is an early reprint of Stowe's classic. Contemporary ownership markings to front blank leaf, one of which is signed W. K. K., which is quite likely the publisher (Wilhelm Klauer Klattowsky).
