Inscribed in Russian: "To dear Raisa Romanovna with friendship and loyalty. K. L. 1.6.16." Covers a little soiled; notation in pen on rear cover. A scarce item. Not in Kilgour. Liandau was a poet, film director, book collector, and one of the organizers of "The Almanach of the Muses" (Petrograd: Felana, 1916), where Marina Tsvetaeva published 4 of her poems.

Oxford: J. Newbery, 1751. Hardcover. Good. 12mo. xxiv (i.e. xxxiv), viii, pp. 168 + 4 leaves of ads at rear. Old calf, crudely repaired. Formerly in the collection of the College of New Rochelle Library with perforated stamp to title and bookplate. One ownership signature from 1806 and another from 1919 on front flyleaf. House in a very handsome burgundy clamshell box with spine label lettered in gilt. Text is in very good or better condition. Sold as is.

One of 100 copies only, this being one of thirty "largest" copies, the only thirty on "this paper" according to the publisher's, Robert Roberts, handwritten declaration to verso of half-title. 4to, in the publisher’s original parchment over stiff paper boards with yapp edges, the spine with raised bands and a printed paper label. ix, 472, 2 ads pp. This copy is ex-library; formerly in the College of New Rochelle with bookplate and reference stickers and cards, small perforated stamp to title; first few leaves with light staining. Main bulk of text survives in superb condition; nevertheless, because of ex-lib. factors, this scarce edition is sold as is.

Hering was responsible for the "psycho-physical theory" of heredity, "that facultative memory, the automatic power of protoplasm to do what is has done before, is the distinctiv property of all living matter." Rare.

Number 533 from a limited edition of 1250 copies, signed by Moore on the limitation page. Spine a little soiled; spine tips and corners rubbed (with boards exposed at corners); a little worming at fore-edge of text block, infringing into the margins, but nowhere affecting the text itself.

Charmingly illustrated work, and quite scarce.

[Printed in Nanking, China]: Chimes Press, 1933. Paperback. Very Good. Japanese binding; stitched blue cloth with paper label on front cover (8vo, 65 pp.) in blue cloth chemise with fore-edge clasps. Inscribed by the author on the half-title page: "For Mary Fair -- Who is a charming girl with the most delightful name I know. Peg Winthrop." Spine tips gently bumped and thread broken, otherwise book is fine, in battered chemise. A scarce item, especially signed. Winthrop was a member of the Raven Poetry Circle of Greenwich Village in the 1930s and 1940s.

1926. Very Good. Stab-binding, beige paper tied with ribbon; 21 tissue-guarded leaves (7.5” x 8”), each with a tipped-on b/w photograph (usually 3” x 4”) in blindstamped border. Covers lightly rubbed, chipped at spine tips and corners; photographs clean and lavishly printed, though some show faint off-setting along the edges, from the adhesive. Features beautiful b/w studies of the Topolcianky Manor House and Castle – considered one of the purest and most beautiful examples of Classicist-style architecture in Slovakia – and the surrounding landscape. Though there is very little text in this volume, light pencil notations on the inside front cover indicate that the photographs were taken by Jindrich Vanek, and the style, careful composition, and exposure of the photographs (trees, lake, courtyard, and different views and details of the building itself) seems to concur. Lovely.

Green cloth over flexible boards, "Photographs" stamped in gilt on upper board; 4to; approx. pp. 50, with over 100 mounted postcard-format entries, usually two per page, on both the recto and the verso. Wonderful! Easily one of the nicest albums of this kind that we have had the pleasure of cataloguing. This unique album contains more than 100 dated "diary entries" (out of chronological sequence), each one a hand-made postcard featuring original artwork (including watercolors, pencil sketches, ink drawings, both naive and accomplished), a photograph, a cyanotype, or an image cut from an unknown source (such as a newspaper or magazine). The postcards are created by numerous contributors, and their rich variety is difficult to capture, except to say that they run the gamut of human capability (the sketch artist offers an anthropomorphic chicken, the watercolor painter a peaceful landscape) and personality (sentimental, humorous, sweet, thoughtful).
