New York: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1944. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine in like dust jacket with minor nicks and wear to extremities.. First Edition. Hardcover. INSCRIBED by the author on the front free-endpaper in the year of publication. Walter Duranty was a British-American journalist who served as the Moscow bureau chief for "The New York Times" from 1922 to 1936 and wrote extensively about the country and its political developments. Duranty received a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Soviet Union but was later widely criticized for presenting a distorted and overly favorable view of the regime-especially in his denial of the widespread famine (1930-1933) in the USSR, particularly the Holodomor.
