東京朝日新聞社. [Tōkyō Asahi Shinbunsha].. Showa 13 [1938]. Large colour folding map, scale 1:8000000, 108 x 78cm, two large inset maps along the lower edge. A little faint browning lower edge but overall in very good condition. This large map was published in September 1938, amidst rising tensions between the great powers. The main map shows East Asia and a part of Southeast Asia, with detailed place names. In the north, Soviet encroachment into Chinese-claimed Mongolia and Tuva is apparent. Alongside other subnational divisions in China, British India and French Indochina, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in the Soviet Union is marked. The borderlands of China in Yunnan, Guangxi, Tibet and Xinjiang are shaded as under French, British and Soviet influence. Also of note is that what would constitute modern-day Arunachal Pradesh is split between the Chinese provinces of Xizang (Tibet) and Xikang. The two inset maps show Europe and the world at-large.…

Description:
Karachi.: Oxford University Press. Reprint.. 2008.. Maps, black and white and colour photographic illustrations, 324pp, bibliography, index, very good hardback copy in dustjacket. "Taboo!: The Hidden Culture of a Red Light Area is a journey of discovery into the infamous red-light district of Lahore, Pakistan, known as the Shahi Mohalla (the Royal Bazaar) or Heera Mandi (the market of diamonds). The phenomenon of prostitution coupled with music and dance performances has ancient roots in South Asia. Regardless of the stigma attached to prostitution, it has for centuries given rise to many well-known performing artists. Here author Fouzia Saeed paints a more realistic picture of the phenomenon through the stories of the people living there: the musicians, the prostitutes, and their pimps, managers, and customers." New Haven.: Yale University Press.. 1990.. 222pp, index, bibliography, glossary, notes, hardback. very good hardback copy in protected dustjacket. "The Ch'ing scholar-thinker Tai Chen (1724-1777) was a passionate explorer. He loved words, and his most important philosophical treatise, the Meng Tzu tzu-I shu-cheng (An evidential study of the meaning of terms in the Mencius), is an exhaustive search for the meaning of the words first uttered by Mencius in the fourth century B.C. This book by Ann-ping Chin and Mansfield Freeman is the first complete and annotated English translation of that treatise. Drawing on scholarship from the eighteenth century to the present, it also includes two essays that reconstruct Tai Chen's life and time and reinterpret his thought." Publisher's description. .
