First edition. A magnificently bound and illustrated masterpiece that showcases Pogány's versatility, craftsmanship, and brilliance at design. This extensively illustrated edition shows one of the masters of the early 20th century at the height of his talents. Printed on heavy stock and featuring examples of several styles, many consider this to be among Pogány's finest works.

A lavishly illustrated adaptation of Beatrix Potter's most famous tale, featuring the illustrations of Ethel Hays, famed cartoonist and the Saalfield Publishing company's go-to illustrator for their Raggedy Ann storybooks, coloring books and paper dolls. Rather than go for Potter's naturalistic watercolors, Hayes chooses to infuse Peter with a more childlike friendly appeal using bright colors to create a vibrant whimsical world for Peter and his friends.

First UK edition. It is September 1939, the start of World War Two, and Vivian Smith is being evacuated. On arriving at the station, she is kidnapped by two boys, Jonathan and Sam, and taken to Time City, which exists outside of what we know as History. There the three encounter powerful forces and must work together to preserve history as we know it. A wonderful, time-travel fantasy by one of the masters of modern children's fantasy.

Early reprint, ca. 1918, issued from the plates of the McClurg 1914 first edition with its copyright page but with a new title page and frontispiece based on the original McClurg title page.
