For the last forty-plus years they have worked both collaboratively and individually; letterpress printing, hand-lettering and illustrating texts, making paper, and hand binding both fine press and artists' books.

Nice view of the original San Geronimo Church and graveyard with the Taos Pueblo in the background by legendary Colorado photographer, George L. Beam. George Lytle Beam (1868-1935) is most noted for his photographs for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad (later Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad). This view is in the holdings of the Denver Public Library's Geoge Beam Collection. The Taos pueblo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States, and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Milwaukee, WI: Goeldner Studio, 1910. Albumen photograph [13 cm x 17.5 cm] / [5" x 7"] unmounted. Manuscript title on the back in Matteson's hand with photographer stamps. A view of a team of horses pulling a large wagon with a second team and wagon behind in the distance. A former bicycle salesman, who picked up a camera, Sumner W. Matteson (1867-1920) spent the first decade of the twentieth century crisscrossing North America taking photographs. Primarily a photojournalist, Matteson charmed his way into other people's work places and social celebrations. He produced some of the earliest photographic essays on the changing American West.

London: John Lane The Bodley Head Limited, 1923. First Edition. 282pp. Octavo [23 cm] Light blue cloth with the title gilt stamped on the backstrip. Very good. Name and date (year of publication) in ink at the head of the title page. Complete with all five tipped-in plates. After his studies at Cambridge, Townshend went to Colorado and tramped through the eastern Rockies and Upper Arkansas for five years before starting a cattle ranch near Colorado Springs in 1869. In these stories the author writes about the frontier culture of the Front Range in the 1860s and 1870s and some of the colorful characters he met. Later he sold his ranch and returned to England, where he settled at Wadham College. There he spent his days playing golf and tennis, practicing his shooting, and captivating his friends with his stories of the American west. Wilcox p.114. Herd 2321.

St. Paul, MN: Haynes Picture Shops, 1917. 17302. Silver print photograph [7.5 cm x 23 cm] that has been hand-tinted on a gray mount [14.5 cm x 34 cm] with a gilt stamped border. Nice condition. Lovely hand-colored panorama of Jackson Lake, which is located in Grand Teton National Park. Frank Jay Haynes (1853-1921) was employed by the Northern Pacific RR in 1875 to take pictures along their route from Minnesota to the West Coast for advertising and promotional purposes. From 1884 through 1915 Haynes operated a lucrative service industry in Yellowstone National Park making and selling souvenir photographs, taking pictures of tour parties, and publishing graphic souvenirs. F. Jay Haynes was known as the "Official Park Photographer.

Map showing the (almost) daily progress of the vanguard company of the Mormon Pioneers, from their Midwest departure in February of 1846 to their arrival in the beautiful Salt Lake Valley in July of 1847. sketches of some of the points along the trail illustrate this map, including a view of Fort Bridger and Fort Laramie. Country & Western single from the Will Bagley outfit, 'Thunder & Roses' - this is from the honky-tonk years that preceded his celebrated career as a historian. Will Bagley (1950-2021) wrote and edited more than twenty books on overland emigration, frontier violence, railroads, mining, and the Mormons. He lectured widely and had appeared in more than a dozen films, including the American Experience episode of the ‘The Mormons' on PBS. He was one of the finest historians of the postwar period and a legend. R.I.P.

A previously unpublished journal, Hammer's account is one of the few day-to-day narratives known for the 1844 emigration. He traveled with the first "northsider" train, moving up the Platte on a route which would later be used by one-third of all migrants, including the Mormons. Rare variant that was printed for the Chicago and North Western Line by the Union Pacific. This is the first time that we have handled this variant. Rare in any condition. Large image that "pops," Rock formations are spectacularly displayed in oranges, reds, yellows and browns and speckled with spots of greenery, while put into perspective via three travelers on horseback. Produced to promote trips from the Utah Parks Company, which was a subsidiary of U.P., that ran guided loop tours of all three parks out of Cedar City. "See all three. Grand Canyon - Zion - Bryce Canyon National Parks, combined in one low-cost circle trip.
