New York,: Donaldson bros,, 1890.. A very nice chromolithographed trading card. 7,5 x 11,5cm. "Don't cry, Mamma has Radway's now". Small piece of the upper eight corner gone. Text in Engish and German at the verso.. Very rare. The advertised product was essentially a watery alcoholic solution of oleoresin of capsicum (cayenne pepper), camphor and ammonia, See Cramp II, p. 738.

Contemporary half green morocco with 5 raised bands, gilt lettered (discoloured and/or faded; outer edges of sides partly worn). With several wood engraved illustrations. ¶ Rozet A 676 (who don't mention the "Prix-Courant illustré"). Rare, the WorldCat lists only 2 copies. Ponzio started his career as an electro-homeopathist but changes his interest later on into 'Homéopathie Complexe' (cf. Rabanes 241).

Contemporary half red morocco, spine with 4 raised bands, gilt lettered, tooled with floral decorations marbled boards and end-papers. Richly iilustrated with 3487 wood-engraved figures of plants. ¶ Barnard I: 106; Stafleu/Cowan I: 257; Blunt 284; BM I: 87; Kew I: 125. Baillon, one of the greatest French taxonomist of his time, was Payes best pupil. Auguste Faguet (1841-1886) was one of the greatest French botanical artists of the 19th century, who as a master of wood-engraving, contributed to many major botanical publications. A fine copy in a solid and attractive binding.

Neatly rebound in green marbled boards, green, gilt lettered, morocco label on spine. ¶ The Elixer Tonique Anti-Glaireux of Dr. Guillié was one of the most popular expectorants in France during the first half of the 19th century. A Dutch translation was published in 1823. This edition not in the WorldCat. A nice example of Pharmaceutical publicity, printed by Pillet.

With some illustrations. ¶ A great classic, which has became quite rare today. "Fournier, one of the graetest syphilologist, did more than any other person to develop the knowledge regarding congenital syphilis. Through his writings, the importance of "syphilis as a cause of degenerative diseases was recognized" (Garrison & Morton, 2393). See also the large note in H. of Hippocrates, 1980. --(In volume 2, a few pages a bit browned or foxed).

Contemporary hlaf black morocco. spine with 6 raised bands decorated with 8 gilt rulesr; gilt lettered. ¶ The rather rare Belgian pirate edition (contrefaçon), printed in smaller types and on two different kinds of paper. Garrison & Morton 1967 citing Waller: "A valuable work of reference, containing a large amount of information on the various articles or the materia medica, collected from the best authorities, interspersed with much original matter". --(From page 551 on some scattered foxing or light browning).

The genuine first edition in book form, very rare. Part I: Maladies relatives a la sécrétion des urines, Part II: Maladies relatives a l'excrétion des urines. Desault was a great French surgeon, who with his friend Chopard founded urological surgery. He also was one of the first to have a clear understanding of urological diseases. At the same time Desault is considered one of the founders of modern vascular surgery. Zimmerman & Veith, p. 362-65; Murphy, p. 87-88. Copy with ample margins.

Paris,: Victor Masson,, 1859.. [iv], iv, 407, [i] pp. Large 8vo (14,5 x 23 cm.). Original printed wrappers, uncut. With 2 lithographed plates by Pochet, printed at the presses of Lemercier. Early literature on anthrax in bookform is rare. The present work, with an historical introductions, is a throughly analysis of the subject. Both human an animal diseases are considered. "The author, together with Davaine, established the etiological connection between the disease in humans and animals for the first time" (Wilson & Miles, 1964). Copy with ample margins, printed on vélin.-- (A minute wormhole in the inner margin of the last few gatherings, but a very good and clean copy).

First French translation of Van Swieten's Boerhaave commenaties related to fevers.-- (Some worm holes in the lower margin, not affecting the text). A very clean copy.

With a few figures in the text including a Dynamoscope. ¶ Caillet 2499. -Inventor's exposure of a special art of physical diagnosis (see Litré). With an interesting chapter on the diagnoses of apparent and sudden death by means of the Dynamoscope.

The first edition of 1707 is considered to be the "first modern textbook of ophthalmology. Garrison & Morton 5824: "Called "the father of French ophtahalmology", Maître-Jan energetically supported Brisseau's doctrine, ensuring its acceptance. As far back as 1692, Maître-Jan had proved that the opaque lens is cataract, but before Brisseau's work appeared it had been regarded as a sort of skin or pellicle immediately inside the capsule of the lens".
