Description:
1912. Typed letter signed by the author of The Waste Land, T.S. Eliot. One page, on Eliot's Criterion Review letterhead, the letter is dated June 9th 1925 and reads: I have not the pleasure of knowing Mr. H.F. Collins personally, but have had frequent correspondence with him since first seeing the manuscript of the essay which was published in a recent "Criterion". I was very much impressed by this essay, as were several of my colleagues in "The Criterion". Mr. Collins is a critic of remarkable maturity of thought and expression, obviously of wide reading which he employs very much to the point, and what is especially uncommon, he brings to bear upon the criticism a philosophic mind. I expect great things of him as a critic. It follows that I consider him eminently suitable as a reader for any publisher who is interested in the production of literature. "T.S. Eliot." In fine condition. Double matted and framed with a portrait of Eliot. The entire piece measures 19 inches by 14 inches.

Description:
London: Frederick Warne and Co, 1904. First edition of the fourth sequel to Potter's immensely successful The Tale of Peter Rabbit which was an instant commercial success in its own right, with 'muffatees' for 'muffetees' on page 15. 12mo, original boards with pictorial onlay to the front panel, pictorial endpapers, illustrated. In very good condition. A nice example. In 1903, Potter and her publisher decided her next book should be less complicated than her previous productions, and in Benjamin Bunny she created a simple, didactic tale for young children. The book's masterful illustrations were based upon the several gardens at the Lake District estate of Fawe Park, where Potter spent the summer of 1903. She was sensitive to the openings and endings of her books, and insisted Benjamin Bunny finish with the words "rabbit-tobacco", a term she appropriated from the Uncle Remus stories by Joel Chandler Harris, one of her literary heroes. Benjamin Bunny was an instant commercial and popular success,… Read more

Octavo, bound in full morocco with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised bands, double gilt ruling and fleuron cornerpieces to the panels, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, marbled endpapers and all edges gilt, elaborately illustrated with full color plates after the drawings of William Russell Flint including tissue-guarded frontispiece. A collection of 24 stories written in Middle English by Geoffrey Chaucer between 1387 and 1400, The Canterbury Tales is is near-unanimously seen as Chaucer's magnum opus.
