First book edition, several stories were published earlier in Chamber's and All the Year Round. A collection of 29 short stories. Mostly of an adventure sort, such as 'My First and Last Balloon Ascent' which involves a fight at 11,000 feet. There are fantasy elements to some of the tales, such as 'The Last of the Alchemists' and (fairly tame)supernatural elements such as 'How Professor Gaster Lectured a Ghost'. Other tales verge on fantasy: 'A Race with a Nightmare' seems to be going down that path but is rendered explicable quite early on. In that particular issue Jim Cawthorn provided two illustrations (on one sheet). So three magazine paste-ups, one with the illustrations. The publisher uncovered a number of Cummings' early crime stories in the magazines in which they were first published and republished in their original three column structre, replacing the ads etc with Cawthorn illustrations. Pym and George were two of Aickman's closest friends, particularly in later life. Aickman lived with the pair for a number of years, with most of the stories from this collection having been written whilst Aickman was there - this is mentioned in the inscription too. A lovely association. Aickman dedicated Cold Hand in Mine to George and Pym. The present copy comes from the estate of Ann Pym. Gathers together seven short stories. One can only assume, given the number of titles Lindsay had published that the print runs were fairly sizeable at one point. However, given the relative rarity, they weren't perhaps retained for future generations! A respectable copy, very good overall. Jacket is intact with some heavy rubbing to the folds at the spine and edges, one large tear to rear spine fold, mostly closed but there's a couple of mil of the boards showing through. Shorter tear to front edge, corners worn also. Spine tips nibbled. Book in decent shape with some bumping and toning to the spine tips, corresponding to the jacket.
