Description:
London: None. London, 1968. Unbound. A letter of reply from Temple to agent Les Hood (Hood's letter is included, but not as fun as Temple's). The letter's typically WFT, down about his own lack of success with a good deal of cynicism towards ACC and the premiere of 2001, which Temple appears to have attended on the day of the letter (1st May 1968). Les Flood, to whom WFT is replying, thanks WFT for the premiere tickets. A nice pair of letters. [9770, Hyraxia Books]. . Near Fine. Unbound. Edition. 1968.

Description:
London: Sampson Low, Son and Marston. London, Sampson Low, Son and Marston, nd [1865]. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A near fine copy. Two volumes, complete. First book edition, several stories were published earlier in Chamber's and All the Year Round. A collection of 29 short stories. Mostly of an adventure sort, such as 'My First and Last Balloon Ascent' which involves a fight at 11,000 feet. There are fantasy elements to some of the tales, such as 'The Last of the Alchemists' and (fairly tame)supernatural elements such as 'How Professor Gaster Lectured a Ghost'. Other tales verge on fantasy: 'A Race with a Nightmare' seems to be going down that path but is rendered explicable quite early on. A nice collection, albeit one that isn't likely to pick up a Penguin Classics badge of honour any time soon. Apparently written with soldiers in mind. George Walter Thornbury (1828-1876) was an English poet, novelist, and essayist. He is best known for his… Read More

London: Gollancz. London, Gollancz, 1977. First edition, first impression. Hardback. A fine copy. An important association copy, inscribed by the author to Ann Pym and Mary George. Pym and George were two of Aickman's closest friends, particularly in later life. Aickman lived with the pair for a number of years, with most of the stories from this collection having been written whilst Aickman was there - this is mentioned in the inscription too. A lovely association. Aickman dedicated Cold Hand in Mine to George and Pym. The present copy comes from the estate of Ann Pym. Gathers together seven short stories. His sixth collection, three stories herein previously published in anthologies. A little bumping to the spine tips. [11115, Hyraxia Books]. . Fine. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1977.

Description:
London: John Hamilton. London, John Hamilton, n.d. [1938 BL]. First Edition. First Impression. An uncommon book by a prolific author. One can only assume, given the number of titles Lindsay had published that the print runs were fairly sizeable at one point. However, given the relative rarity, they weren't perhaps retained for future generations! A respectable copy, very good overall. Jacket is intact with some heavy rubbing to the folds at the spine and edges, one large tear to rear spine fold, mostly closed but there's a couple of mil of the boards showing through. Shorter tear to front edge, corners worn also. Spine tips nibbled. Book in decent shape with some bumping and toning to the spine tips, corresponding to the jacket. Owner's name on front endpaper in pencil. Cover art by Stanley Orton Bradshaw [5988, Hyraxia Books]. n.d. [1938 BL] . Very Good. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1938.

Description:
London: John Ouseley. London, John Ouseley, n.d. [1912 BL]. First Edition. First Impression. Lost Race. A satire on an ancient and imaginary civilisation [Locke, vI, p38]. The present copy, from Locke's library, is an advanced copy with a presentation inscription from the author. A newspaper clipping is pasted in, as is a typed note (probably from the author). There is a further autograph note, initialled by the author, and dated 1939. Possibly an author's copy, though not, we think, one of the two copies mentioned in spectrum as the description doesn't quite match. In Blieler, as allegory / symbolism [p28] .COPAC located four copies. Near fine with owner's ex-libris stamp to title page, boards a little worn. An interesting copy. [5942, Hyraxia Books]. n.d. London: R. Wilson & Co.. London, R. Wilson & Co., n.d. [c1890]. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A near fine copy. Wilson collects ten short stories. I can find little about Robert Wilson. The pieces here are certainly in the vein of Penny Dreadfuls, and given the publication date would be towards the end of the era. I get the impression that this volume is a collection republishing the stories, but suspect the stories are the originals rather than reprints given the original pagination (each story is individually numbered).
