Sauk City: Arkham House, 1971. [First edition]. Submitted to Arkham House in 1949, SELECTED POEMS was a career-spanning selection by Smith himself, with many early poems revised or rewritten, including his epic THE HASHISH-EATER which is here presented in its final version (personally, I prefer it's first version as presented in EBONY & CRYSTAL, in 1922). Smith considered SELECTED POEMS his greatest book because he first and foremost thought of himself as a poet. Unfortunately the delays in publication due to economic concerns of such a hefty volume of poetry, then additional frictions between Derleth and Carolyn Smiththe author's wife, Smith did not live to see its eventual appearance in print. Over 500 poems. This is an exceptional copy, very fine, unread with white paper and just a few tiny rubs to d.j. A lovely copy!

Sauk City: Arkham House, 2003. First Edition. Two hundred-seven-six letters are referenced, from the year 1911, when CAS was eighteen, until just a few weeks before his death in 1961. Smith's letters are in no way as compelling, absorbing, or entertaining as Lovecraft's, as Smith, in addition to working hard manual labor, writing his fictions, painting, and translating, he didn't have the time on his hands that HPL did. An excellent frontispiece photo of CAS by the noted California photographer, Wynn Bullock, with a nice cover of a colorized, altered Walter J. Daugherty photo of Clark Ashton Smith Sculptures. Auburn, CA: Auburn Journal, 1922. A love-sonnet, written in the flowing, graceful hand of twenty-five year old poet, Clark Ashton Smith. Presented in a Roy A. Squires binder-folder, with hand-printed title-page Folded for mailing (no doubt to his poet-friend, Samuel Loveman) with a closed split of approximately 1-1/4". Holographic CAS material is virtually unobtainable nowadays. Very good condition.

New York, : Dial Press,, 1980. . [First Printing]. Joan Vinge was only the 4th woman to win the Hugo Award for best Novel, which she won in 1981, for THE SNOW QUEEN. Offered, is the author's signed, 662 holograph page manuscript of that Hugo Award winning novel, which was originally entitled, CARBUNCLE, then changed during its evolution. Also included is a holograph, signed cover letter, and a xerox copy drawing of the heroine, by the author. The pages include notes, thoughts, drawings, whimsey, and much material not included in the final draft.

N.Y.: Knopf, 1983. [First edition, thus]. A presentation edition for the author, especially prepared by the publisher. I have heard this special binding with all gilt page edges, was issued in an edition of 60 to 75 copies. I was told, 60 copies. Regardless, it is one of the authors scarcest editions. This issuance coincided with the 1983 release of the movie. A 1/4 thin scratch to upper d.j., edge,else an as new unread copy in like d.j.

Oxford, UK: BELKNAPP BOOKS, 1984. First Printing. William Hope Hodgson's own abridgements of Carnacki the Ghost Finder, and The Ghost Pirates, in order to secure American copyright protection. Ian Bell's scholarship and Sherlockian-ship, rediscovered these long buried editions of Hodgson classics. Only 250 copies of this book were produced. Fine in stiff-paper covers.
