On The Road America USA. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1908. Hardcover. On offer is a really wonderful diary of a young Victorian woman during the year of 1908 as she travels aboard a train from the West to the East coast and then back to the West coast again. As the diary starts out she is leaving her home in California on January 7th and spends most of 1908 traveling with her three sisters and parents. In fact Jo does most of the writing but there are also many times when her sisters write. Jo gets sick at one point then the sisters take over writing and they talk about family being sick and some are quarantined. Her entries are descriptively written telling all about the sights and sounds along the way. In fact the first two entries really capture what this journal is all about. On the cover page is written; "Best wishes always to Jo from Marie, A line or two will quite suffice for the every day of life. Sardinia. Good with no dust jacket. 1849. Ephemera. On offer is a printed decree issued by King Charles Albert of Sardinia, who would shortly be forced to abdicate his throne. The document is a state decree issued by the government of the Kingdom of Sardinia under theauspices of King Charles Albert. The coat of arms and name of the king, Charles Albert, are prominently printed on the front page. Charles Albert ruled from 1831 until 1849. His name was given to the Albertine Statute which was essentially the first constitution of the Kingdom of Italy and remained in force for the first couple of years of the Republic of Italy. He engaged in wars with the Austro-Hungarian Empire over territory and, 24 days after promulgating this decree, was handed a disastrous military defeat by them. Four months later, he was forced to abdicate and his son, Victor Emmanualle II ascended the throne. This decree is a tax and spend bill authorizing the continued collection of taxes and payment of state bills.… Read More

This document appears to serve as an information piece that was used by Notre Dame des Vocations in admitting students. They state the Society’s purpose at the outset: But ...
