The First UK printing published by Grant Richards in 1914. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine tips. Gilt titling and motif remains very bright. Very Light rubbing of edges in places. Contents entirely complete with a previous owner's name and date to the top edge of the title page and a small oval bookplate of the author Michael Sadleir to the top left corner of the front pastedown. No dust jacket. Housed in a custom black solander box with gilt lettering. A very sharp copy. Robert Tressell (18 April 1870 3 February 1911) was the pen name of Irish writer Robert Croker, who later changed his name to Robert Noonan. He is best known for his novel The 'Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists'. He wrote under the pen name Robert Tressell as he feared the socialist views expressed in the book would have him blacklisted. He chose the surname Tressell as a play on the trestle table, an important part of a painter and decorator's kit. Until the full manuscript was published in 1955, all… Read More

Description:
The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1942. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Some very light age related markings to the covers. The binding remains tight. Only some very slight creasing internally - barely discernible. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Lacking the wrapper. Protected in a loose archival Mylar covering. The book was published lithographically at the Baynard Press in London, during a period of ink and paper rationing. The resultant illustrations are very striking. Jack Townend studied at the Slade School of Art under the direction of Randolph Schwabe. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1946. Jack Townend has recently had the recognition he deserves with the The 'V and A museum' recently reprinting many of his titles. A very scarce wartime production title, more-so in such collectible condition. More images on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Description:
A First UK printing published by John Lehmann, London in 1951. The author's scarce second book. The Book is in near Fine condition. The boards are clean with just some light fading and pushing to the spine ends. There is some mild toning to the text block with light offsetting of the end-papers. The book is tight, clean and free from markings and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near FINE condition. It bears the correct price of 10s 6d. It has some very minor edge-wear with associated creasing and rubbing to the tips of the spine. The spine is slightly toned but this does not detract from the pictorial wrap around design. The rear panel has mild age related markings but less so than usually encountered. The wonderful period wrapper artwork is by the renowned artist John Minton and looks stunning in the Brodart protective cover. John Minton was commissioned to design the wrappers for both of Camberton's books. The book has been warmly inscribed and signed by the author on the upper front… Read More
