Description:
London: The Cresset Press, 1941., 1941. First edition. First edition. Fine in dust jacket. Not an official history of the RAF, but a record of impressions. It deals with the peace-time training in Southern England; with the assembly of the many squadrons at their war stations in August, 1939; with the life of a Coastal Command squadron patrolling out in the Atlantic during the first winter of the war; with the life of a strange and unique Anglo-French Air Force unit in France during the spring, and the happenings during the retreat and the evacuation; with the life of so-called " home-stations," now that England has become herself part of the front line, where young English boys, Dominion pilots, Czech and Polish airmen are all training to become part of a greater and more widely-embracing Royal Air Force.

Boerne: The Highland Press, [1951]., 1951. First edition. First edition. 6" x 9" oblong in plain yellow wrappers with pictorial dust jacket. 32 pages. Artwork by Emilie Toepperwein. Early children's story set in Fredericksburg, Texas, at Easter time. "The story goes that in the very early days a family of pioneer children were frightened on Easter Eve by seeing Indian campfires on the hills. Their mother quieted them. Oh, no! she said, not Indian fires, but rabbit fires burned there outside the town. The Easter Rabbit was coloring his eggs, she said, with kettles of flower-dye boiling above the flames they saw." From that day forward, there have been fires lighting the town of Fredericksburg on Easter Eve. A lovely little book, printed on light orange, light pink and yellow pastel paper with charming illustrations. Former owner's name neatly written on front free end paper and with very light bleeding to edges of both covers in lightly soiled dust jacket with light water… Read More

Description:
N. P.: Privately printed, [1930]., 1930. First edition. 9" x 19 1/2" one sheet, folded into ten panels, printed on both sides in red and black, illustrated, map. Brochure advertises "miracle waters" that will "prevent more bodily ills than a modern drug store" and can be enjoyed along with tennis courts, a fine dance floor, and sumptuous meals. Although the actual radium content of these springs was (fortunately) quite low, promoters were not deterred from capitalizing on the early 20th Century fascination with radium's alleged power to cure rheumatism, high blood pressure, gastric ailments, alcoholism, and more. The brochure provides a chemical analysis of the waters, asserting that "the radium water you drink acts like a million little suns giving off the Alpha and Gamma rays, which act as tonic, stimulating the tissues, the glands, the nerves, and the internal organs." If that's not enough to convince you, perhaps you'll be swayed by the wisdom… Read More
