New York: Office of Sup't Railway Mail Service, 1903. No Binding. Near Fine. Railway Mail Service, Second Division Comprising New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Peninsula of Maryland and Virginia: General Order. A collection of 11 newsletters with envelopes sent to Railway Postal Clerk Mr Lawrence Ulysses in Lawrenceville, PA between 1900 and 1903. These were issued thrice weekly for the information and guidance of Postal Clerks and Postmasters and concern adjustments to be made in the routes and timings of mail handling, and conduct of staff. Also an R.P. Clerk's Record of train arrival and departure times completed by Mr Ulysses predecessor Lindon Case. The record is undated but shows that over the course of one month three trains failed to run due to flooding. In near fine condition: the envelopes are browned and a little soiled but the newsletters are crisp and clean. A fascinating piece of railway history. Near Fine 1903

We have recently acquired the library of Harry Horlock Stringer who was a leading British potter at the old Fulham Pottery in the 1950s where he concentrated on earthenware. Later he moved to Taggs Yard in Barnes, south-west London, where he built and ran his own school, welcoming pupils and making friends from across the world including many leading potters and lay enthusiasts such as the actor Ginger Rogers. Also interesting stills from Robert's performances in tv or film drama, including one in cowboy costume. The book is near fine in blue cloth with gilt profile portrait, one corner bumped; in a very good photographic dust jacket which is chipped and creased to the edges. This book comes from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr, 1910 - 2001, the son of Ellen Walters Delano who was a first cousin to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Adams became a passionate bibliophile who served as director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City for two decades and compiled a significant personal collection relating to F.D.R.. In 1969 he married his third wife who was a Swedish princess and with whom he shared the final years of his life in France. Adams' move to France explains the presence of his books in the United Kingdom. Near Fine 1945

Saint-Sulpice, Paris: Chez Floury, 1920. Excellent. Near Fine. Out of sequence edition containing three original drawings by the artist and writer and an additional suite of woodcuts preceding the text. Unnumbered, but resembling one of the first 13 copies, the book has been rebound in crushed burgundy morocco with gilt decoration, top edge gilt, a silk book mark and marbled endpapers. A female nude in red crayon signed '23e Seance - 20 minutes Mar 1913 Guierre' precedes a pencil and black gouache study of a male figure, also signed 'Guierre' and a third small pencil sketch if laid in. The second of the sketches is executed on orange card and is tipped in following the first title page which itself announces the suite of woodcuts on 'japon' that precedes the full text with woodcuts. Guierre combined a career as naval officer and submariner with a successful second life as a writer and illustrator. Near Fine 1920

'Nouvelle edition' bound in very pretty English, or perhaps Scottish, polished calf with circular black morocco volume numbers and red morocco lettering pieces to the spine. Bookplate of 'Kinnaird' to each volume: George Kinnaird was a Scottish banker and art collector whose collection was boosted by the dispersal of the Orleans collection in 1792. Contemporary shelf-marks to the bookplate and a note on the pastedown in the first volume which records the original cost of the set. A most attractive set. Madame de Sevigny's letters which are celebrated for their wit and immediacy were addressed to her daughter and achieved huge popularity in the eighteenth century. Very Good 1780

In publisher's tan cloth with gilt titles and vignettes of a cowboy and native American, very good, covers rubbed to spine ends and edges and lightly marked, hinge starting to crack but the text is complete with its black and white plates, some spotting to the pages, no marks or inscriptions.
