Description:
Composed for the American amateur saxophonist Elise Hall in 1903, Debussy left the orchestration incomplete at his death. The task of finishing the orchestral score fell to Jean Roger-Ducasse, who prepared the orchestral version in time for its premiere on May 14, 1919 in Paris, conducted by Debussy's student André Caplet. The present study score is a digitally-enhanced reprint of the score issued by Durand et Cie. in 1919. In contrast to so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is actually readable.

Berlioz composed his Grand Messe des Morts, or Requiem, in 1837 for a huge orchestra with four brass choirs plus the usual vocal soli and chorus. The vocal score presented here was prepared by the Polish pianist and composer Philipp Scharwenka (1847-1917) to coincide with the issue of the full score issued as part of the Berlioz Complete Works published by Breitkopf & Härtel in the first decade of the 20th century. Description:
This publication offers a source-critical edition of Mozart's fragmentary "Requiem" as well as an alternative to the traditional Süßmayr version. It makes it possible to perform 1) the fragment, identified in print in both the score and the parts, 2) the authentic sections left incomplete by Mozart, now in a stylistically appropriate orchestration, and 3) those sections missing entirely in the fragment, newly added in Mozart's idiom taking into account historical additions by Süßmayr and Eybler.

When completing the fragment, the editor drew on comprehensive comparative and analytical studies of Mozart's church style and compositional workmanship. The influence of Handel and Bach manifested in his final years, particularly in the "Requiem" fragment, is taken into account in those sections requiring completion or fresh composition.
At two points performers may choose between alternative movements or sections. Proceeding from Süßmayr's historical completion, two divergent options cannot be weighed… Read More

Description:
This is a new, digitally enhanced reissue of the classic vocal score prepared by Friedrich Brissler and issued by C.F. Peters of Leipzig around 1880. Brissler's vocal score was arranged from the well-known completion of Mozart's unfinished masterpiece done by his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr in 1792 at the request of Mozart's widow Constanze. Includes contents, instrumentation, and an English translation of the latin text in the frontmatter. Although it was first published in oblong format by Peters as early as the 1850s, Brissler's reduction was revised and re-engraved to the present format around 1880 to coincide with the publication of the Mozart complete works.

Description:
Composed in the summer of 1831 while in Rome, Berlioz's work was inspired by the Scottish rebel Rob-Roy MacGregor had to wait until the spring of 1833 for its premiere. The composer abandoned the piece shortly afterwards, but used some of the music material for his more famous "Harold in Italy". An unabridged, digitally enhanced reprint from Volume 4 of Series II of the Berlioz Complete Works, edited by Charles Malherbe and Felix Weingartner, issued by Breitkopf and Härtel between 1900 and 1907, this new study score presents the Berlioz's fascinating work in an easy-to-read format at a very reasonable price.

Description:
Composed in 1839, Romeo et Juliette is a unique work which straddles the opera and symphonic genres. Berlioz himself used the term "Symphonie dramatique" to characterize it. With three vocal soloists and a triple chorus accompanied by large orchestra, the number of vocal soli is less than what was normally employed for operas of the era and is closer to the forces employed by Beethoven in his Symphony No.9. Much of the drama is supplied by Berlioz's exquisite orchestral writing, elevating the orchestra to a full participant in the unfolding drama of the classic Shakespeare tragedy - in a French adaptation by Émile Deschamps. The work was given its premiere on November 24, 1839 in Paris at the Conservatoire, with voices, chorus and orchestra conducted by the composer.

The present vocal score is a digitally restored reissue of the one prepared by Richard Kleinmichel in 1901 to coincide with the complete edition of Berlioz's work under the joint editorship of Charles Malherbe and Felix Weingartner by… Read More
