The five battleships of this class - Queen Elizabeth, Barham, Malaya, Valiant, Warspite - were the last designed under Sir Philip Watts as Director Naval Construction. All served in the latter stages of WWI (Queen Elizabeth controversially at the Dardanelles) and with distinction (especially Warspite) throughout WWII which all save Barham, a tragic early loss, survived.
