This small and intriguing photobook collections snapshots by an unnamed French doctor of beachgoers in Cannes during the mid 1950's - some of them perhaps recognizable from celluloid dreams. "These pictures were taken during a rare period of unbelievable tolerance, probably as an anticlimax after the horros of a world conflict. The photographer was a French dotor who worked near the beach in Cannes during the mid 1950's. For the enjoyment of the reader, daytime scenes alternate with furtive nightly meetings. We have deliberately refrained from indicating which characters meet more than once. An artists' book by White published in conjunction with his May 25, 1975 performance at LAICA, in which the artist received instructions from a tape recorder, reversing, perhaps, the traditionally accepted relationship between artist and medium. Ithaca, NY: Eagles Cornell University Art Place, c. late 19th century. Silver gelatin print, mounted on a cabinet card with bevelled edges, 4 1/4 x 6 1/2", verso printed with a reproduction f a view of Cornell University. A cabinet card featuring two young women, likely Cornell University Graduates, reading a book held between them. The typography on the card and the view on the back are very reminiscent of the studio of the famous Cornell photographer E.D. Evans. Some oxidization to image, with a couple faint stress creases, and a stain to lower margin of card not affecting image. The verso shows some light staining. Otherwise very good.

np, nd. 3 1/2 x 4 1/2" vintage snapshot of a woamn playing a fiddle and looking at sheet music, with a radiator in the background. Black paper adhering to verso from being removed, likely from an album, some faint oxidation. Very good.

Girard, Kansas: Haldeman-Julius, 1927. 32mo, saddle-stapled cream wraps. Gibbs 228b, in the sixth noted binding. A somewhat scarcer title in the series, as this was a crowded number - this book replaced Huxley's Aphorisms, and was succeeded by Ellis's more popular title Diderot. Three essays by Ellis are matched with Viereck's scarce text on Magnus Hirschfeld's Sex Institute, published before it was destroyed by the Nazis. Near fine with minor toning and a light crease to back cover.

London: Kropotkin's Lighthouse, 1973. 4to, dittoed in various colors entirely from holograph. Side-stapled in wras along top edge, backed with wrapping tape. Second, enlarged edition. One of 200 numbered copies. A collection of poetry, many of them on anarchist themes, published by Kropotkin's Lighthouse, care of Housmans' book shop. A light horizontal bend to front cover, tape backnig lifitng a bit, but very good.

np: Arrow as Arrow, 2010. First edition. One of 125 numbered copies. 8vo, saddle-stitched wraps. A beautifully printed chapbook. Some minor soiling and indenting to back cover, else a clean, very good copy.

Suffolk: Scorpion Press, 1961. First edition. Translated by John Berger and Anna Bostock, who also provide a brief foreward. The first English language edition of these 7 poems, which were taken from Messinkauf. Superb translations... Near fine with fading to the extremities of the wraps and some faint toning within.

Single issue of the longrunning periodical devoted not only to information about the west coast poetry scenes, but also lots of opiniated coverage of readings, critical articles, photographs and even poems- a whole strata of information that is not published elsewhere. Worth the price of admission for the pithy reviews alone, and for the remarkably indepth criticism of readings - a rare feature for a poetry magazine of the time, and a rich resource of anecdote and histories of the smaller moments of the west coast poetry scene. This issue includes a half page review of the Taylor Mead Show at La Mammelle Gallery by Steve Abbott, a great review - also, Susan Reichman on the Poetry for the People organization, and Gerald Nicosia on Neeli Cherkovski's Love Proof, etc. Near fine with some light toning to extremities.

Also, a rare interview with Jack Gilbert by Alberto Huerta, his first since 1962. Near fine with some light toning to extremities.

Paris: Cause de Peuple / Front Populaire, 1968. 4to, single sheet folded once to make a four pager. This appears to be a leaflet, or offprint from La Cause de Peuple, the journal of the Front Populaire, issued in June of 1968. It lays out the program and proposals of the group in the wake of the May events. Red dye transfer stain throughout, not affecting legibility of text. Otherwise very good.

Glasgow: Caledonian Press, 1952. 21mo, saddle-stapled wraps. An uncut copy. The first separate appearance of the text which first appeared in the National Weekly. Very good with minor toning.

Los Angeles: Independent Project Press, 1985. 4 x 6" postcard, letterpress printed in two colors on thick chipboard card stock. Postcard for this 1985 show at Club Lingerie by Sonic Youth - an early west coast show by the band - with Savage Republic and Lawndale. The verso of the postcard advertises a series of early shows by Camper Van Beethoven, at Club Lingerie, Texas Records, and Anticlub. Beautifully designed and printed by Savage Republic member Bruce Licher at Independent Project Press. Fine.

Strasbourg, 1967. 4to, folder containing a [12] pp. booklet bound in, along with five loose booklets and leaflets. Rare publication issued by the so-called Garnaultins critiquing the International Situationniste, and protesting the expulsion of the four from the group. The folder includes a reproduction of the Situationist tract that expelled the four, accompanied by booklets entitled "La Vérité est révolutionnaire", "De la merde in milieu situationniste", "Attention, trois provocateurs et son complément", and "Rien que la merde, mais toute la merde." Booklet lightly creased with a touch of rubbing; contents fine.

London: Arts & Community Centre Notting Hill, 1968. ALS, with a trifold brochure [8 x 10 1/2"] and a Poetry Workshop poster [8 x 13"] folded for mailing, all housed in the original mailing envelope addressed to Tjeerd Deelstra postmarked September 5, 1968. Rare ephemera from the early days of the Community Centre, which had begun late in 1967. The Centre was incredibly important venue for musical improvisation, free jazz, and experimental painting and poetry. As a music venue, it was better known by the name The Crypt. The letter, signed with an unintelligible signature, discusses the financial difficulties of the nascent venue - "We have had to close the Crypt for awhile until we get more help and bread." Girard, Kansas: Haldeman-Julius, 1922. 32mo, saddle-stapled in blue wraps, two staple binding. This appears to be a variant not noted by Gibbs. It corresponds most closely to first recorded state of 121c, and is in the TCPS wrappers, but lacks the advertisements. Very good with fading to wraps and some toning.
