OCLC shows one holding (Iberio Amerk. Instit.) Ohio State also has a copy. SMU has two lottery game boards by Posada but not separately described. First row: burro, borrego, caballo, imprenta de Antonio Vanegas Arroyo, estrella. Pictorial game with 20 illustrations of animals and objects with printed words in Spanish or Náhuatl. The game of Lotería, often referred to as "Mexican Bingo" was among the most popular games of chance in Mexico; although it persists until the present day, the game has given a more educational and ludic purpose.
The game is similar to the American Bingo, however, they differ substantially on the way that the numbers or cards are given. In Bingo an announcer calls out the selected letters and numbers, such as "B-4" and the players mark their game boards accordingly. In Lotería, the announcer gives an improvised short poem or familiar phrase alluding to the image on the… Read More

"The race game whose prototype can be traced to ancient Egypt, is commonplace in all western and oriental cultures. The juego de la oca or game of goose, is a type of race game that originated in Florence during the late Sixteenth Century and was introduced in Spain under Phillip II. It may have been brought to Mexico—like card games (amapatolli) and chess (quaah patolli)—by the Spanish conquerors. Posada's version of the game retains the traditional spiral of 63 cells (casillas), along which a player's men move with a throw of the dice. The player tries to avoid the penalty cells, marked by such hazards as the pickpocket (no. 12), the calavera… Read More

[Mexican War] Captain Dan Drake Henrie. Autograph letter, signed, folded into a stampless cover with wax seal to General J. M. McCalla. Nashville, TN., May, 19, 1848. One sheet folded into 4 leaves, 2 leaves of text, postmarked May 20th, Nashville. 8 x 10 in. Split at fold with minor edge chip, else very good.
An interesting letter concerning two Generals who were in Nashville, Tennessee. The letter references General Pillow's trouble with General Scott and the activities of their Whig opponents ("Taylor men") in an extended horse metaphor (reins, traces, etc.). He also asks for help regarding his bill in Congress, mentioning his exploit that was no doubt the basis for the bill. H.R. 363, a bill for the Relief of Captain Dan Drake Henrie was passed Jan 22, 1849. An interesting glimpse of the politics after the Mexican War by a Texas Ranger and hero of the Mexican War.
Captain Dan Drake Henrie was a former Texas Ranger who fought during the Mexican American War and narrowly escaped capture by the… Read More

"These broadsides were posted in the liberated areas around the Normandy beachheads in June 1944 by the American, British, Canadian, and Free French forces that finally breeched Adolf Hitler's 'Fortress Europe'. The map depicts a camp with symbols of canons, along Fox Creek and Little Fox River. Notation on verso "Plan of Camp May 9, 1779." On left corner: "Hedq [Headquarters] of God____." There are a few possible locations based on the name Little Fox River, but perhaps the most likely seems to be in what was then referred to as the Northwest Territory, in present day Illinois, some 58 miles south of Vincennes, because there are recorded military activities in the area in the timeframe. In December 1778 the British took Ft. Sackville, in Vincennes on the Wabash River along the border of present day Illinois and Indiana. Then in February 1779 American forces under George Rogers Clark retook the fort, re-naming it Ft. Patrick Henry. "In… Read More
