Folio, 45 x 28.5 cm, Forty two engraved plates. William Pain 's last book, assisted by his son James, the later became a pupil of John Nash and a practicing architect in Ireland. This was one of the few 18th century pattern books to enable the experienced builder to follow a design through from groundwork to execution. It devotes one third of its plates to four complete designs for town houses, the rest to their fixtures and fittings.
