Rear panel has a photo of the author. These reprints had the publisher as Walter J. Black inside the book on the title page and the DJ spine says Morrow. A very handsome vintage hardcover with DJ that will outlive any of the paperbacks. LOC

Minor shelf/edge wear to green cloth boards with gilt spine titles and full color front pastedown by Arthur Rackham - one corner lightly bumped. Spine titles are very lightly faded. Previous owner name and address(A. Catherine Krause, Bethlehem, PA) on FFEP - all other pages are clean and unmarked. Only flaw is the last 31 pages (starting with pg 95) has a small crease running horizontal about 1/2" above the bottom edge and is also present on the rear endpaper and inside rear cover. The rear board is not creased on the outside. My guess is something was laid in the book to cause it. All 16 full color plates by Arthur rack ham are present. Tissue guard for frontispiece is present and has a vertical crease in it. A very handsome copy minus the DJ.LOC SSE-01

This is the 6th title in a series of 14. Inside book lists to Pollyanna and The Secret Mission (the last book in the series published in 1951). A very respectable vintage copy that still presents well in the original DJ. LOC SSS-11

Christmas gift inscription (1911) to the previous owner on first blank page following the half-title page is the only flaw. Part 1, The Canal has 9 chapters and Part 2, the Country has 10 chapters. 51 illustrations of which there are 3 fold-out maps (intact and unmarked). NOTE: The title page states 53 illustrations and 5 maps but that is a mistake from the publisher. This has been noted by other booksellers over the years. Author also published an earlier book titled "Panama, the Isthmus and the Canal". A superb First Edition, and seldom seen this nice and clean. LOC SSS-06
