Le Grand adapted Partonopeus de Blois from a Spanish version of a twelfth century French romance. Half bound in red leather over marbled paper boards, raised bands and intricated gilt lettering and detail to spine, all three edges gilt. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown and some price markings to endpaper. Heavy foxing throughout text. Large area of liquid staining to bottom right corner of most pages, heavier in the beginning and lighter at the end. Binding and hinges secure, although both hinges cracked. Heavy rubbing, scuffing and fraying to boards and spine. Peeling at spine head.

Large tear to top edge of back jacket cover. Jacket spine is discolored and has chipping/tears at the ends. Blemishes from handling along fore edge of front cover with tape on the top right corner. Jacket liners clipped on the corners. Boards are straight and clean save for a small dent on top edge of rear board. Previous owner's name stamp on first page, otherwise pages are clean and unmarked.
