The Pallbearers Review began publishing in November 1965 and ended in October 1975, followed by Close-Up Folio in 1976-1977, and then The Chronicles, which had a total of 36 issues published beginning in 1978. Only one holding in OCLC (Brown).

[La Jolla, CA]: Lingua Press, 1976. Six (6) volumes, each 17 x 17cm. in stapled wraps, together VG+ (sunning to covers). The six volumes are: The Beauty of Irrelevant Music, C,….Is, Murmur, Extraction, A Non-Scatological Set of Preliminary Remarks for NMCE IV, The Music in Samuel Beckett’s Play. Each volume is a separate lecture or commentary on “various aesthetic, philosophical, theoretical performance issues.” Gaburo founded Lingua Press in 1975 and is best known for his experimental musical compositions. None found in commerce and about 25 complete sets located in OCLC.

Fort Worth, TX: Tarrant County Public Affairs Forum, 1963. VG+ tan stapled wraps with some sunning and light soiling. 23 pp. A radical attack on the P-TA which accuses the organization of, among other things, promoting the poisoning of public water supplies via flouridation while also claiming that the mental health movement is being used for propaganda for One-World Government. “There is no place in P-TA for a non-comformist who wishes to ‘interfere’ with school administration, methods or curriculum. There is no place in P-TA where a parent may be truly represented” and concluding that “The National P-TA should be dissolved—probably the State Congress, too, if those groups cannot put their house in order.” Uncommon in the trade, and only six holdings in OCLC (UC Davis, Harvard, Michigan State, Kansas, Colorado, Wisconsin Historical Society).

Prose and poetry on faith, birth, death, love, marriage, mending relationships, and children and grandchildren. Only 4 holdings per OCLC, all in North Dakota.

Minneapolis: Milkweed Editions, 1994. First Edition. 97 pp. VG+ or better illustrated softcover (a touch of soiling, rear corner crease). A poetry collection by this Asian-American author, with praise from Gwendolyn Brooks and Adrienne Rich.

37 black and white contact sheets (most 8” x 10”), each with 10-20 individual thumbnail images (approximately 600 images), most with stamp on versos that reads “U.S. Air Force Photo Air Force Eastern Test Range Photographic Laboratory,” “Unclassified,” and dated January 1965. The photos on the contact sheets detail the operations, stage tests, procedures for mating, rocket transfers, and pre-launch activities for the launch of the SLV-1B, 2213 at the test range on the East Coast of Florida. These Blue Scouts, as they were called, were solid-fueled rockets; according to the April 1961 edition of Air Force/Space Digest, “The United States Air Force Blue Scout Program provides the Nation with a new and versatile low-cost family of test vehicles to support our military weapons and space systems development programs. It can be used in a variety of deep space probes, orbit missions, boost glide trajectories, and as a rocket and satellite command and control communications system” (163). Overall VG+.… Read More

Smith not only edits the collection, but also provides an Introduction: “I invited five, bright, young writers…to write stories of a pornographic nature…In effect, I paid my friends to write about sex for me.” This publication is sandwiched between the publication of her first novel in 2000, White Teeth, for which she won the Guardian First Book Award, the Whitbread First Novel Award, and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction, and 2002’s The Autograph Man. The following year, 2003, she was named as a Granta best young author. Stories included by James Flint, Daren King, Toby Litt, Rebecca Ray, and Matt Thorne.

Jonesville, MI: Andrew Mack and Son Brush Co., 1990. Reprinted from the original 1981 copy. 5.5” x 8.5”. 43(1) pp. with numerous close-up images that detail Roth’s process. VG+ illustrated stapled wraps, covers with some rubbing and light soiling, otherwise VG+. Roth, one of Southern California’s premiere pinstripers, was perhaps best known in Kustom Kulture circles for his Rat Fink character. Uncommon.

New York: Random House, 1974. First Edition in wraps. VG+ (soiling and light wear each with a touch of rubbing.). A posthumously-published book of poetry edited by Eugene B. Redmond, Dumas’s colleague at Southern Illinois University. Dumas “identified with the black power movement during his lifetime [and] was also active in the civil rights movement. At the age of 33, Dumas was shot and killed by a New York City Transit policeman in a case of mistaken identity” (www.poetryfoundation.org). Toni Morrison, author of The Bluest Eye and an editor at Random House at the time of Dumas’s death, championed Dumas’s work, even organizing a book release event “with a glamorous guest list comprising the most renowned black writers of the time,” commenting in an announcement for the book launch party, “in those thirty-three years he had completed work the quality and quantity of which are almost never achieved in several lifetimes" (see the story on Dumas at www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch).

No date, c. 1870. Four (4) pages, large woodcut on rear, 6" x 9". Scarce playbill for theatrical performance of a play based on the life of mountain man J. Capen “Grizzly” Adams, made popular in the 20th century with the 1974 film release of The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams and the NBC series Grizzly Adams that ran for two seasons beginning in 1977, starring Dan Haggerty, who died in early 2016. OCLC locates only two copies (Berkeley and Yale). Split entirely at center fold, with chipping and discoloration to edges.

Directed by Gavin Richards and starring Richards, Gavin Muir, Jim Bywater, Ken Gregson, John Gillett, and Jeni Barnett; Richards, Muir, and Bywater appeared in the television adaptation in 1983.

WIllimantic, CT: Curbstone Press, 1994. First Edition. 63 pp. Near Fine in illustrated wraps (a touch of rubbing). Introduction by Carolyn Forché. Praise from Oliver Stone ("Bowen captures the spirituality of Vietnam"), Tim O'Brien, Yusef Komunyakaa, and Maxine Hong Kingston. Bowen served in Vietnam from 1968-1969.

Sydney King Russell (b. 29 Nov. 1897 in New York City, NY and died 28 Nov. 1976 in West Palm Beach, FL) grew up in New Jersey and attended the University of California, Berkeley. An internationally known poet and editor and member the Poetry Society of America, Russell’s work was published in The New Yorker, Poetry, The American Mercury, The Christian Science Monitor, and Good Housekeeping, among other venues. He was founder and editor of the Poetry Chap-Book from 1942 to 1953 and co-editor of Voices Magazine. Side stapled and mimeographed, 22 pp. VG+. Distributed at Café Le Metro avant-garde poetry readings in small numbers (reportedly less than 75 copies). Ron Padgett recalls, “Dan Saxon would come into Le Metro during the readings and hand out rexograph sheets, and we would get one stencil each. Some people would take them home and type on them, but a lot of us wrote by hand on one of the old wooden tables at Le Metro. Some would spontaneously write a poem by themselves or collaborate with somebody. Or they would draw a poem picture. A few people would come in occasionally and write from memory a poem they had written recently. … Poets at Le Metro was kind of a free-flowing record of the readings that went on. Devoted to films made in Poland after the Second World War on the fine arts (including “spatial arts” and “show arts”) and artistic culture. The Introduction notes, “Compared against the average world output, Poland’s achievement is generally acclaimed as considerable and multifarious, both in subject and in form” (67). Includes more than 400 film descriptions and production details in English, German, and French, with numerous stills and images throughout. With Telefilm Canada/Los Angeles business card laid in.
