Second edition, 8vo; [8], 310pp. In contemporary early eighteenth century panelled calf with five raised spine bands (front board detached, rear hinge split with board attached by two of three cords, wear to extremities with minor loss to spine ends and board corners), front free endpaper detached, closed tear and marginal chipping to tile page without loss of text, sporadic light soiling and staining, occasional early marginal ink inscriptions, early ownership inscription to front free endpaper ("Penny Hancock's Book"), early eighteenth century ink manuscript list of farm produce and prices to rear pastedown. Despite wear, a very good example in it's original panelled binding. ESTC T88785

Very Good/Very Good. 12mo, first edition; 385pp. In contemporary nineteenth century quarter leather over marbled boards (lightly worn), gilt lettered spine, four reaised spine bands between gilt rolls, internally clean and unmarked, complete with folding engraved map, two engraved plates and eight in-text woodcuts. Published as part of the Library of Entertaining Knowledge; volume two was subsequently issued separately. A very good example.

Very Good. 24mo (5 x 3 inches); 211pp. In early nineteenth century full leather, blind rolls to board margins, gilt lettered black and green spine labels between blind-tooled panels, original marbled endpapers, engraved heraldic book plate of D C Browne to front pastedown, bookbinders ticket to rear pastedown ('Bound by T.Jen, Bookseller etc., Glocester'), light paper browning and occasion unobtrusive spotting, an attractive pocket edition of Williams' translations of these two popular novels.

First edition thus, undated but circa 1792; 12mo; [viii], 280pp. In late eighteenth century half leather over marbled board (somewhat worn with minor loss to extremities), spine divided into six compartment by gilt single fillets, gilt lettered red leather spine label to second compartment; two old ownership labels to front pastedown, engraved vignette to title page, with frontispiece and three further plates (of four, lacking plate IV), spotting and offsetting to plates (as often), otherwise a very good clean copy.

Octavo, volume two only; 448, [i]pp. In contemporary full speckled calf (extremities lightly worn, spine rubbed), gilt roll to board margins, spine gilt, spine labels missing, original marbled endpapers, light spotting to opening and closing leaves, closing errata leaf present, a clean complete odd volume example produced within Voltaire's lifetime of this attractive edition, with each page set within an ornamental frame.

Small octavo (5.5 x 4 inches); xxx, 134pp. In attractive early nineteenth century full leather (with only the lightest of wear), gilt and blind rolls to board margins, four raised spine bands with gilt-lettered black leather label to second compartment, remaining compartments gilt, original marbled endpapers, marbled page edges, 6 engraved plates (lightly spotted), a very attractive example of this pocket edition

Seymour and Browne/"Phiz. 8vo; xii, 497pp. In original publisher's red buckram binding with black and gilt tooling to spine and front board. Binding shaken (as is common for this edition), spine tips, hinges and board corners bumped/worn, unobtrusive early inscription to front endpaper, internally an uncommonly clean copy without foxing, with full complement of 8 plates by Seymour and Phiz. Overall a very presentable example, undated but undoubtedly a circa 1880 copy of the "Charles Dickens Edition" of this celebrated work.

First edition, octavo; [24],170,[2]pp. In contemporary full leather (a little worn), double gilt fillet to board margins, five raised spine bands, gilt lettered labels to second and third compartments, hairline split to head and foot of front hinge (with hinge remaining firmly secure), opening and closing leaves stained by turn ins, old ink ownership name to head of title page, otherwise a clean copy with attractive woodcut headpieces and capitals. The title page declares this volume's price as 3s 6d., adding that two volumes of Boileau's non-posthumous works may be had for 12s. This example was bound up as a companion to these two volumes and though it bears a "vol.3"spine label, is nevertheless a separate work. Collection of separately paginated dramatic works issued as Vol. 9 of Inchbald's's British Theatre, each play with its own title page and frontispiece; 12mo, in contemporary early nineteenth century half calf (somwhat worn with minor loss to extremities, early owners ink inscription to front pastedown). Occasional spotting and paper browning but overall a very good copy.

First edition, large quarto; viii + 724pp. In original half leather binding, very worn, boards detached, spine backstrip missing, opening and closing leaves loose with marginal chipping and creasing without loss of text, text block otherwise sound with unobtrusive sporadic light staining and soiling only, complete with engraved portrait frontispiece, extra engraved title page and 16 full page engraved plates. Despite its tired condition, still a complete working copy of this early illustrated biography in first edition.

Small 12mo (5 x 3 x 1 inches); 3 vols complete in one physical volume; xii, 168, 107, 121, [3]pp. Each volume preceded by engraved frontispiece. In late eighteenth century full calf, gilt rolls dividing spine into five compartments, gilt lettered red and green leather spine labels in second and third compartments, other compartments gilt, board edges gilt, short closed tear to vol.3 p.105 with no loss of text. A superb example of this rare pocket edition: not in ESTC (which lists the very scarce 1780 edition only with just 3 x Uk and no US citations).
