[1723-1738].. 445 x 275mm.. Single leaf. Fine impression. Illustrates Communion among Greeks, one large engraving. Suitable for framing. Bernard Picart (1673-1733), son of the famous engraver Etienne Picart and a very good engraver himself, although born at Paris into Catholicism, converted to the Reformed faith and so, in search of freedom of worship, moved to Holland in 1710. This work is one the most famous illustrated histories of religion of its period. The plates were often copied but none are as fine as the originals.

Suitable for framing. ÒMartin, John (1789Ð1854), artist. Mezzotint is a medium peculiarly suited to Manichaean fantasies: the black void of the prepared plate, blackness scraped away to create forms and highlights. Paradise Lost, illustrated in two sets of mezzotints for the publisher Septimus Prowett in 1825Ð7, was ideal material for Martin, who echoed Milton's solemnity while opening out his cadences in the imagery of groves and chases bathed in silvery light and an underworld where fires tongue the darkness and bridges span nothingness and Satan's armies infest the gloom. Le Sourire was a popular French satirical magazine in the 1920Õs featuring erotic and humorous artwork by a variety of talented French illustrators.

Degge resumed his legal studies and was called to the bar on 24 November 1653. He practiced as a civilian lawyer in Doctors' Commons. In 1660 he became puisne judge of Carmarthen circuit and two years later a justice of the Welsh marches. Both places he retained until 1674. In 1661 he became recorder of Derby and in 1662 steward of the court of the manor of Peverel. He was elected a bencher of the Inner Temple on 7 November 1668, but he was ÔdisbenchedÕ in 1674 for refusing to read at the next Lent vacation. He was knighted on 2 March 1670.
