Hardcover, no jacket.  Dark green boards, with stamped black and gilt titling/decoration. Illustrated with 63 b/w drawings. Ex-lib. Good condtion. Boards moderately worn with light  fabric  fraying at tips and top/bottom of spine, and bumps to the tips. An attractive book to hold as extensive decoration is still bright. Map at rear is present, with tears at folds. Some library markings and stickers. Scattered grime and age spots internally. Securely bound, though the rear hinge has a little play in it. The story of the author's canoe trip through Maine in 1880. (cfm)

The inside front flap is detached and there is a long tear at the front that almost detaches most of the front from the spine. Binding, however, shows only minor shelf-wear. Interior is clean and free of stray markings save for a previous owner's signature and an inscription from another previous owner on the first free end-paper. Overall, a very good copy with a poor dust jacket.

Condition is VG- in a Fair dj.  Jacket is well worn with fading, grime and foxing, and small tears along the edges.  Book is bumped in lower left corner, affecting about a 1/2 inch triangle of the boards and the first couple pages. Scattered foxing of endpapers. Dust spots to top page edges. Interior is otherwise clean, square, and tightly bound. "This volume is concerned with Japanese painting from the seventh century to the fourteenth century.  It begins with a survey of the first Buddhist paintings...and traces the development...through the successive centuries to the foundation of a purely Japanese style." Slipcase is slightly soiled but still in very good condition. *With collected essays by Henry Miller on the art of watercolor, a foreward by Lawrence Durrell.

Laid in is the play bill of the Greenwich Village Theatre, during the first presentation in America of this comedy.
