Original red cloth with a boy's profile inset in a ribbon design with an unusual color backdrop that darkens from yellow to green, lettering stamped in black and gilt, top edge gilt. Illustrated. An uncommon title, rendered interesting and collectible based on the fact that it is DOUBLE JACKETED. The interior jacket is a glassine jacket. The exterior jacket is printed. The glassine jacket has chipping at the edges. The printed jacket is dampstained at the front panel and has a few small closed tears. Fore and bottom edges of the text block foxed. Bottom corners bumped and rubbed through. Scattered dampstains to the extrerior jacket's spine. Ownership inscriptions to the front free endpaper. . First Edition. Original Decorative Binding. Very nice copper plate engraving of the Aldus printing device on the title page (in spite of offsetting from the frontispiece engraving). This is #6 in the series, "The Aldine Edition of the British Poets." OCLC Worldcat locates only one copy of this edition, that being in the National Library of Australia. Quite scarce in the original publisher's boards and with the printed spine label in legible condition (most are rebound in leather). Corners bumped, bottom corners rubbed through at the tips. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Ownership notations to the back pastedown (two lines). Some foxing to the prelims. Scuff marks to the front board. Some shallow chipping to the spine ends. NY & London: Random House & Nonesuch Press, 1927. 1152pp. Original blue cloth with spine lettering stamped in gilt. Nicely printed, showing the influence of the Nonesuch Press on this edition. A nice association copy, bearing the bookplate of Anita Loos, the author of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and the first staff script writer in Hollywood (writing many of Douglas Fairbanks' films). Her bookplate, appropriately, is a depiction of Loos in typical "flapper" style by Frank Walts (originally appeared on the cover of the April 1918 issue of The Liberator). Taped to the front free endpaper is a calling card from Professor Emil Glas (Vienna, Austria) and on the verso is a gift inscription to Ms. Loos. Small red ink stamp on the same says, "From the estate of Anita Loos." Glas' connection to Anita Loos is fascinating.
