Undated, 1772 or later. 1 page 12 x 8 inches, minor blemishes only. General Bigoe Armstrong (1717-1794). Bigoe Armstrong was born on 10 September 1717 in County Offaly, Ireland. Serving in the 18th Regiment of Foot, Armstrong was promoted to lieutenant-colonel on 25 November 1752. On 26 May 1772, Armstrong was promoted to lieutenant-general and later that year on 13 November, he was appointed the Colonel of the 8th (The King's) Regiment of Foot.

Postmarked Tangier, 14 November 1977. 2 x 1½ inches. With the original envelope, addressed by Waugh to James Butt in Stowmarket, franked with Moroccan stamps. Alec Waugh (1898-1981), author.

Bangkok postmarks, 14 November 1899. Card 3 x 5 inches, in fine condition. Emile Jottrand, author of Au Siam: Journal De Voyage (1905) and other travel books. Jottrand was a Belgian assistant legal adviser in the Siamese Ministry of Justice in Bangkok.

Undated. Overall 9 x 6 inches. Clarence Blakiston (1864–1943), actor. In November 1902 he acted in JM Barrie's play, "The Admirable Crichton," at the Duke of York's Theatre in London.

Undated. 1 x 5 inches, in fine clean condition. Robert Moffat (1795-1883), Scottish missionary, father-in-law to David Livingstone, and author of Labours and Scenes in South Africa (1842).

1783. 4 x 6 inches, very lightly tipped on to an album page with an engraved portrait of De Lolme and a biography. Jean-Louis de Lolme (1740 – 1806), Swiss and British political theorist and writer on constitutional matters, born in Geneva. As an adult he moved to England, and became a British subject. His most famous work was Constitution de l'Angleterre (The Constitution of England, 1771), which was subsequently published in English as well. In it, de Lolme advocated a constitutional form of government enshrining the principle that monarchy, aristocracy and democracy should be balanced against each other. He also praised the element of representative democracy in the constitution, and urged an extension of suffrage. The work influenced many of the framers of the United States Constitution.
