A fine atlas of medicinal plants in coloured colllotype, based on early color photograph of plants. A technique rarely applied. See Nissen, BBI, 1 252 ff. The text for the foreign platns was supplied by author's brother, Max, the director of the botanical garden at München. -- (Cancelled library stamp on title and preface; lower corner of title very slightly damaged).

The original edition of one of the best works on the subject, the history and bibliography of American Paperback 1939-1959 and their fascinating cover design.

Paris,: Delagrave,, 1921.. 296 pp. Small 8vo (13,5 x 20 cm.). Original printed wrappers, uncut (slightly dust soiled and some foxing), uncut. With a frontispiece (portarit of Paster) and some text figures. ¶ First 4 pages slightly foxed.

Rotterdam,: Pieter & Abraham van Waesberge,, 1661.. [viii], 460, [xii] pp. Small 8vo (10 x 16 cm.). Contemporary overlapping vellum (some minor defects). With a charming engraved title-page (interior of an apothecary store) and 2 woodcut figures (distillation devices). Exceedingly rare, the only know 2 other copies are in the Amsterdam University Library. The engraved title-page reads: "Nieu Licht der Apotekers en Distilleerkonst". According to the "approbatie" this work was first published in Gent, 1653, but Vandewiele nor Boeynaems (Broeder Jan Bischop en zijn Pharmacie Galenica, Antwerpen, 1957) haven't been able to locate a copy. According to E. Homburg, it was "The first book published in the South (Belgium)( on Chemistry and Pharmacy". The original last two index pages (11/12) are missing, but, grace to the Amsterdam University Library, here supplied in facsimile.

Roterrodami,: Joannem Hofhout,, 1709.. [xxiv], 274, [xxx] pp. Small 8vo (10 x 17 cm.). Contemporary full marbled calf, spine with 5 raised bands, in compartments gilt tooled with floral patterns, gilt lettered on red morocco label (corners rubbed; outer edges of the sides partly worn; top of spine slightly damaged). Title printed in red and black. ¶ This 5th. Rotterdam edition is the first to be published at the continent, and is very rare, only two copies in the WorldCat. No copy in a Dutch library nor in the NLM. Fuller's Pharmacopoeia Extemporanea was widely used in the Low Countries. Besides this 5th Rotterdam edition of 1709, we have a 6th edition Amsterdam 1709. A 7th. edition Amsterdam 1717 & 1722, and in Leiden 1734. Edition 8th. Amsterdam 1731. The 10th. (and last) Amsterdam & Lausanne 1761. Fuller pharmacopoeia was first published in London in 1701, the last time it was published in Paris in 1785. --(A few pages slightly browned; some scattered light foxing and or light staining).

Gandavi,: Typis Judoci Begyn,, 1786 (= 1787).. [10], 466, [ii]; [iv], 44, [iv] pp. 4to (20 x 24.5 cm.). Recent half brown morocco, spine with 5 raised bands; marbled boards. ¶ An interesting municipal pharmacopoea, published by order of the Collegium Medici Gandensis under the editorship of the pharmacists J. de Bever, A.D. Goormachtigh, G. van den Haute, and J. de Vos. The popolar names of the Materia Medica also give in Dutch. This was the last of a series of the municipal pharmacopoeasof Gent. The first was published in 1653 as 'Antidotarium Gandavensis", followed by an edition in 1663, and in 1756 as 'Pharmacopoea Gandavensis'. This is the last municipal pharmacopoea published in Belgium, and new was that the names of the Materia Medica are given in both Latin and Dutch. Today very rare.-- (A number of leaves slightly browned and/or partly foxed).

Amstelædami,: Ex Typographia Gerardi Tielenburg (1734-1776), & Soc.,, MDCCLXXIV (1774).. 61, [iii] pp. 8vo (12,6 x 20 cm.). Recently bound in half, dark brown, grained morocco. With a few woodcut vignettes in the text, and illustrated with a most charming engraved frontispiece and title-engraving. ¶ Very uncommon, only a few copies in the WorldCat. A curious, satirical, and sometimes serious, piece of hexametric neo-latin poetry. In his "Prooemium" the author i.a. mentions Aldrovandus, Jonston, Linnaeus, Brisson, Buffon. A wonderful "darwinistic poem avant la lettre" seen throught the eyes of a Jesuit priest. This work is also of interest for the history of 18th century Catholic Amsterdam, more specific the priest of the Krijtberg. - C'est un assez curieux et rare poème (neo)-Latin sur les singes.

With 73 plates and illustrations. ¶ The trade edition of Iréne Bernard's thesis, prepared under C. Claqué in the tradition of the Bordeau Medical Faculty. The work is both revolutionary and innovative (given the date of publication). The first 70 pages being the first part of this work dealing with esthetical conception of the mamma through the history as well as judiciary aspects regarding mamma reconstruction. The remaining 3 parts deal with the physio-anatomico and surgical aspects.

The prospectus and sample pages, together with the original illustrated cloth binder for a new issue (3rd) of "De Geneeskundige Raadsman bij Ziekten en Ongevallen". Preserved in a half leather binding (spine rubbed). Later edition of this work of medical vulgarization are 1941 & 1952. Apparently the only survived copy of this dummy.
