Very nice copy. This attractive, enticing book is a companion to the PBS series Nature . Through lively text, skillful overview, and anecdote, Brooks examines the structure and behavior of birds. Interspersed throughout the text are 150 excellent color photos reinforcing points made by Brooks. In only six chapters he describes the world of birds. For example, the chapter on bird feathers touches on many subjects, such as camouflage coloration; how feathers enable birds to adapt to life in water; human demand for feathers; and how invertebrates living in feathers help or hinder birds. Other chapters concern flight; bill and feet adaptations; songs; reproduction; and, inevitably, birds and humans. This is a thoughtful look at birds, fully worthy of association with this excellent TV series. Recommended for lay readers and experts alike. Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 4/15/89.- Henry T.
