Invaluable for very young or dying infants, also in cases of Typhoid, of for very aged persons, and when the organs have become too feeble to digest any other form of ailment". Humanized milk is cow's milk that has had its composition modified, the main change being a reduction in protein content, achieved by dilution with carbohydrate and restoration of the fat content. Parisiis (Paris): Jacobi Guerin, 1730. lxv, [1], 400, [2], 401-684pp, [2], 1-16pp, [152], contemporary full calf, raised bands, spine in six panels, author/title label to second panel, remaining panels with triple fillet frames, small roundels to corners and central fleuron device, gilt roll to board edges. Chipped to spine ends with small amounts of loss exposing end bands, joints with Japanese paper repairs, rubbed to extremities, corners bumped and worn. Internally lightly browned and lightly foxed, but generally fairly clean. Engraved frontispiece and one engraved plate of nine medallions. Ausonius was a Roman poet and teacher, born in c.310. Though admired by contemporaries, his poetry is not generally well regarded. Later (late-eighteenth century) full-calf, raised bands, spines in six panels, contrasting title / volume labels to second and third panels, volute corner pieces and central lozenge shaped tool to remaining panels, gilt flower head frame to covers, all edges marbled with blue paste endpapers. Volume two lacks author label, volume one slightly chipped to head of spine, rubbed to extremities. Lightly browned internally, light water stain to corners of the first few pages, otherwise fairly bright and clean. Engraved title by Persyn. Dibdin calls this the "best Variorum edition ... Marlborough: Emberlin and Harold Single sided leaflet, approximately 155mm x 250mm in size, n.d. but probably very late 1835 or very early 1836 (another copy had an ink postage stamp of January 7, 1836). Hint of light foxing, very slightly creased, tiny tear to head, otherwise clean. Song relating to the town council election in Marlborough, with several names and nicknames mentioned. The Victoria County History of Wiltshire mentions that "in 1835 the oligarchical corporation which had been controlled by the earls and marquesses of Ailesbury was replaced by a town council styled the mayor and burgesses of the borough and town of Marlborough". Oddly the song begins with a reference to the Anatomy Act of 1832, "Come all you friends that dwell around, With Liberty protect us, For fear the Body-snatching train, Should want for to dissect us".
